I have owned this car since May 2004. I bought the car from a local gentleman who had owned a couple of 914's previously when he worked in Germany. On his return to the UK deciding he wanted another he purchased this car in November 1995 from a UK specialist of California imports (West Coast Classics of Heanor in Derbyshire). He instructed them to carry out a full bare metal re-spray in alpine white; install replacement door cards and recondition the engine including a convertion to twin carbs. This work was completed in March 1996 at a total cost of £5,500.00.
He also purchased the distinctive registration number for the car, OIL 914 4 which is included in the sale price.
He continued to look after the car on a 'no expense spared' basis and included in the long list of parts purchased were a brand new altenator as well as stainless steel heat exchangers and exhaust which he paid nearly £1200.00 for.
I bought the car in May 2004 and immediately went on an 800 mile round trip to Scotland the very next day, the car was fantastic and even better when the sun allowed us to get the roof off. I have used it pretty much as a daily driver since. As well as taking it on two DDK tours; of Yorkshire and more recently the Scottish Highlands.
I have carried out a few cosmetic upgrades just to improve the over all feel of the car. Including having the wheels fully polished and detailed inside and out in satin black (£200.00), fitted them with a brand new set of Yokohama AVS DB tyres (£240.00) and new center caps from JAVA set them off nicely (£30).
I also had a new windscreen fitted as the previous one had started to de-laminate (£145.00); installed a Momo 'Corse' steering wheel (£160.00); a Blaupunct CD/Radio and Infinity speakers (£225.00).
On the service side recent work completed includes the following;
