Intake manifold recommendation
Hope I'm not jumping the gun but I have just unpacked a couple of intake manifolds from CSP (www.csp-shop.de) and they look to be really, really top quality compared with the others that I have seen and used (saga at http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16044).
Also CSP have been an absolute pleasure to deal with.

You really want a report!??! It's me remember - things don't always go so smoothly.
Have had a lot of stuff going on so it was only this Sunday that I got a chance to do some car stuff. Prepared meticulously this time and was all set to install the new intake manifolds but what a f***kn nightmare I have had trying to remove the studs(?) that the manifolds sit onto – these new ones have a whole different method of being bolted on using a long bolt with an allen(?) key effort. I actually had to give up in the end cos it was dark and cold and pzzn rain and I just COULD NOT remove the final one of those stud yokes. Any tips would be gratefully accepted at this stage – it just will not budge.
But, about the product, I still reckon they will really be a huge improvement on those others – really, really solid.
One thing: where the carb joins to the intake the holes are exactly the same diameter whereas with all the others the intake had a much wider hole – never noticed before but maybe this makes things even better!? No idea.

Hey Nige.
Afraid I don't have any special tools for removing the studs so that might just be the place to start
Stud "yokes" - just meant the studs - my lingo is still not up to scratch (and will probably never be).
Really hoping I'll overcome the problems at the weekend and get this baby back where it belongs - on the road.

You need to use heat or you risk snapping the stud!!
There are a few options such as, heat up the area with a blow torch then using the two nut method, first tighten slightly then losen the stud.
If that doesn't work reheat then hit the stud with a freezer spray (or wd40 at a push). This should crack the seal.
If you need even more heat . Weld a blob onto the end of the stud using a mig welder. This will roast the stud a treat.
Don't rush it. If it snaps off you will be kicking yourself!

Thanks for that advice Bruce - been away for ages but just before I left I spent a few more hours on the car. I had a heat gun so I did exactly what you suggested - it actually completely stopped working after about 5 minutes but that was long enough to heat the stud enough to get it(eventually) out of there. Fitted the manifolds and drove the car only once before I had to leave. Drove absolutely fine and dandy - I thought it'd cough and splutter and pop and f*rt but surprisingly it didn't. I wanted to test it all some more but it was late and I was accused of waking the baby with the engine noise
love that sound I do. I had planned to take the car to get the carbs all set up again this week when I’m finally back home but……
…jumped into the car today to take it for a serious drive but it would not start for love or money. I’m a little bit stumped but after a while I thought that maybe I don’t hear the fuel pump and there definitely wasn’t a strong smell of petrol which I’d expect if I have to turn over an engine a lot to get it started. The fuel gauge shows it to be half full and I’m pretty certain that’s about right.
Now, the thing is that I don’t even know where the fuel pump is never mind how I should test if there is a problem. I checked the fuses and they seemed to be all ok.
Any pointers?

Thanks for that tip ar_kid.
I haven't done anything since but just yesterday evening I gave it another go and after maybe 15 minutes it seemed to get a little further and i could smell a faint whiff of petrol. So i persisted and whaddayaknow it fired up!!!
I was extremely unpopular with wife and boy (who gets frightened by the noise of the engine) but I gave it plent of revs and took it for a nice longish spin around the place.
This morning I decided to take it to work with me and it fired up first time - i.e. 4 pumps of the accelerator, push about 1/4 way down and turn the key. It was 6am so, again, not so popular with boy and wife!
So, after a long break its back on the road. It goes great too but I do plan to get the carbs tuned soon. And tyres - I definitely need tyres. Oh, and there is some leak to the driver's footwell that i'll have to source. But I plan to make a lot more use of this car in '08.
Again, thanks for all the help folks.
