Winter Suspension Rebuild - Whats on your setup ?

Post by Highfield »

I posted on the 'winter job list' topic that I am going to remove, refurbish and replace my suspension and brakes.

I would be interested in knowing what setups others have, other than standard, on their narrow body 911.

Do you use the car for street only, or some track days and or regularatory rallies etc.

Tuthills, Center Gravity and Bob Watson have all put forward ideas, and I have read tonnes on Pelican (and DDK or course :) ), but wanted to get real world feedback on what others have to work, and to not work.

No help what so ever but this winter my shot in the dark install will be:

Front:
New A-arms
Turbo Tie Rods
Elephant Racing Bushes
New Billys
Uprated top mounts
21mm Sanders Hollow Torsion Bars
Weltmiester 22mm Through the body anti roll bars
Triangulated Strut Brace
3.2 Carrera Calipers and Discs
Goodridge Lines
Uprated Brake Pads (Not decided brand yet)
Deep 6 Fuchs
Michelin TB5's

Rear:
Sawy a Way adjustable trailing arms (I have modded these to prevent seperation during extreme cornering)
Elephant Racing Bushes
New Billys
27mm Sanders Hollow Torsion Bars
3.2 Carrera Calipers and Discs
Goodridge Lines
Wevo anti roll bar mounts
Weltmiester 22mm anti roll bars
Uprated Brake Pads (Not decided brand yet)
7R Fuchs
Michelin TB5's
Wevo engine and gearbox mounts

I think I have probably done my research in much the same places that you have.
My car will be a standard narrow body 1970 911, with a 915 gearbox with Quaife LSD driven by a 993 non varioram 3.6.

I think AlanUK runs a similar setup in his 3.2SS. IanUK is running the sytem I would have loved to have tried but it's up to him to reveal his plans.

Let me know what you decide :)

Great replies.

Derek - which billys are you going for - HD, Sport, Rally, Custom ? The setup is very much what I have in mind - where did you source the parts from (US or UK) ? I assume Turbo tie rods also.

pb911 - Tarrett look great but will keep standard for now as budget has to stop somewhere.

I found the Elephant Racing website very good, particularly there Street through Track selector spreadsheet.

Basic summary is 935 system front and rear with coilovers instead of torsion bars. As for adjustable anti-roll bars I like SRP ones myself.

Whole package is a nice system because it's light, simple and adjustable. I am starting from scratch which makes it viable to do.

I'll also be going for the TB5 tires like Derek.

Ian.

I will have to check with Billys mine are. I used Chuck at Elephant, very helpful.

Yes turbo ties and wevo engine, gearbox and rear anti roll bar mounts.

I had that combination on my old RS-engined black Targa - along with lowered ride height & 205/55 + 225/50 x 15 tyres on deep sixes/7R Fuchs.

The roadholding/handling were superb...

Andy

What damper settings were you running with that setup ?

Derek mentions 21/27
James mentions 21/26 (you commented on this setup)

Anyone have a view on 21/27 ?

I recommend if possible to revalve each shock from car's weight.

I have 21/27 on my own 1971 car

Suspension is tight, my car is probably a little to low but the suspension set up performs very well.
