912 of interest. Thoughts please

1968 Cali import, now in Spain. 5 dial and fuchs.
It looks like the old owner was an enthusiast, bra (not shown), grill badges, carpets etc. Looks like an ok resto.
Its now sitting on historic plates which is good and the price is 11.500 GBP

BUT,
take a good look at this pic, body work above the rear light cluster looks a bit, er out of shape does it not ?¿

Thoughts please.

It would need to be a very good 912 to fetch that money anyway - and yes, the rear light cluster and bunper look to have had a shunt from that picture - who knows though unless you have a good look at it.

Check the vin number as it looks like it is a 69 model to me. If possible I think it would be advisable to take a much closer look at that car in person.

Yes looks like the light, bumper and above the light is wonky to me.

11500 does seem top whack to me. that's $23k in the states

Good quality can be had for that moneys in 912 territory

Top 912's are starting to touch these values, but.......

you would have to have a documented ...........

engine rebuild done right

body work restoration

good interior

some nice rare parts here and there. Chrome work in good condition.

Correct wheels for the year. Good gearbox

that car looks just like a nice car but well off the mark of what i have listed above. Not having all the bits infront of me.. £8,500- £9,000 but with that interesting rear quarter £7500-£8500

What you have to look for is a California paint job.. this really can affect the car's value. I am sure if you ask Alan about California paint jobs he could expand on these. I hate them and would rather buy a resto car over a restored

Ca car.

Also the plate is a newer Ca plate so it was more than likely been out side CA before it got to Ca other wise you would have a different plate.. Also it looks like it has not been used since 2004 so I would have thought some one bought it on ebay and then sat on it for 2 years. To sell for best price.. that car on Ebay in the US would go for alot because it looks clean, but it's not.

Thanks guys.
I´ve spoken to the vendor.
He said he had never noticed the issue on the rear quarter. Also said the paint and some trim aren´t great so enough said really.

I politley told him he was way off the mark with his asking price but it fell on deaf ears.

He sounds the classic new classic car chancer.. buy it from a nice shiny Ebay sale in the US, ship it to Spain and then try flogging it with out doing alot for silly money. Hoping some muppet will buy it for a nice fat profit.

No ones saying we don't do it.. But aleast we keep the cars for a few years, strip and do as much work as is needed and then some more. Because we know what we are doing and esp from my side I enjoy doing the work. I am doing a 65 at the moment. But I have a resalistic sale price in mind and is able to offer a list of ALL the work done and replaced and changed all the parts needed to make it a safe and enjoyable car..

he's a chancer and if you like the car just wait a few months and then offer the money you want again keep doing that every few months and then I bet you get it..
