They are not offering any discount for the club

, but they're happy to let me go for free if I want

Sorry to just delay things.

Put me down for Norfollk Line. I think I'd rather pay & travel with DDK than go for free on my own.............

Have to take up that free pass another time in the family 'wagen

Same here Gav have you checked out Portsmouth LD lines was £125 last time over night to Carne ( sp ) and then a nice drive down to Le Mans PM sent

right, Norfolk Lines have come back to me

Initially they quoted me more than their web site is showing

... so after some more emails thay have come up with a good price for us

For a group booking they will charge us £39.00 / per car & up to 4 passengers

I am waiting for a reply from speedferries too ( Dover / Bologne) , but they will be more expensive & the timings are less convenient.

Once I have all responses back I'll start a new thread with all the relevant details .

At this stage though it looks like Norfolk Lines have come up trumps with their price

The Norfolk line ferry goes into Dunkerque, adding about 35 Km to your trip to Le Mans compared with Calais. The ferry to Dunkerque takes 2 hours instead of the 90 mins to Calais and in my experience they are not as good at getting the cars on and off the ferry as quickly.

, 20 miles more driving in France & an extra 30 mins of chatting to DDKers in the Sunshine on deck

Anyway, I'll give speedferries until Thursday lunch to respond with their quote & then I'll post up the ferry details in a new thread.

To remind everyone, this is the plan unless speedferries come along with a really good deal:

THURSDAY 10th July 2008:

8.00am ferry from Dover arrive 11am local

Monday 14th July 2008

4pm Dunkirk, arrive back 5pm UK time

Cost is £39.00 return, car & upto 4 passengers

Will, it was that much because it was the overnight ferry Portsmouth - Caen.

Is no one doing that route next year. Just to remind you, Fairmile to Le Mans via Dover is 360 miles, via Portsmouth its 170 miles!

I'd be happy with Portsmouth again but will go with a consensus. I'm staying in a Chateau so will look to cruise with fellow inmates!

It will work better if there are a number of different groups / convoys, otherwise we could end up with 40 odd cars trying to keep together

I was only expecting a smallish group to do the Dover route. Having done Dieppe one year & Caen another I'm looking forward to the extra French miles from Dunkirque

My round trip will be 1200 miles

As long as the majority who are camping turn up together so we can get a good plot, then thats all that matters

Is anyone thinking of going Portsmouth Le Havre? I've seen the price at around £130 and while tons of mileage might be good for some I fancy getting there and back without any problems.

Hey ho I have already PM'd James last night about this very Subject..

I was thinking of doing Portsmouth- Le Harve on wednesday night, fall a sleep arrive 8am in Le Harve, drive to Rouen for breakfast about 30mins. then wait till the Dover- Calis people come though Rouen and then drive down.. I have 4 people interested in this route already..

LD lines £124 and i think if we approach them we may get a small discount as I have some I can ask to pull some strings I hope..

so post up for Portsmouth but remember it's Wed night so we get the night crossing ready for Thursday AM..

Any one want to come down early can stop at my house as I am 15mins from the Ferry. James and the bunch can vouch for that.. plus I have a great local pub 5 mins from my house..last big british eats before camping grub!!
