Scottish engine swap day - 21st October

Post by bjmullan »

Just to let you know that me & Mike (210bhp) will be swapping my sick engine with a spare 2.4 that Mike has kindly loaned me until we rebuild my unit.

This will occur on Sunday 21st October at 10:00am at my place in Bridge of Weir and if anyone wants to come alone and learn/help/watch/laugh they are more than welcome and a hearty brunch will be provided. As this is our first time doing this I might also have to provide dinner and tea

This may well happen unless Mike Bainbridge happens to be passing our way. I can see Brendan having to break out the fish fingers for tea.

Ah well,....nothing ventured nothing gained as they say.

If i were anywhere near I would be happy to chip in, I think its a great idea and more of us should do this sort of thing, sometimes it feels like your struggling in your own garage when there could be someone just down the road with nothing better to do. you don't need to be technical, hey even if its just to pass the spanners etc you'll have fun an maybe learn a thing or two.

good luck gents hope it all goes well

Have you got a big spanner for the oil lines ?
and a good Allen key for the drive shaft bolts ?
Then you'll be fine !
Good luck :)
See you guys in Mull the week before ?
I'll be camping at Calgary Bay.
Cheers

You are welcome to join us.
Details TBA (we don't like to over organise things!!) but probably drive up Thurs 11th. Camp out at Calgary bay all weekend, drive home Monday.
Drive will be Glen Coe etc up to Lochaline 'cos we never book the ferry early enough ! Its a tough drive , but someone has to do it !

So how did the engine swap go Brendan - do you have a wanabee 2.4T now, or did the grand prix get in the way of this?

Any pictures?
2006 RHD 997 Carrera (but DDK remains in my heart - also now no longer)
1972 LHD 2.4T with '73 2.4T CIS motor - gone to a new DDK home
1994 RHD 993 Carrera - gone!
1968 LHD 911L - was the Wife's but now in new hands :-(

Well we had a great day today. Both Mike & myself were engine out virgins so we took our time and enjoyed what we achieved. Things didn't got exactly to plan (understanding the clutch cable, trouble with the oil lines & getting the gearbox off) but we still enjoyed the experience and next time it will not take us 5 hours to remove an engine

Mike checking that everything was in order :?

Job done (or at least half done!)

p.s. Can so one move this to past events please.

According to the EXIF data those pics are only 40 minutes apart! What took you the rest of the 5 hours? Reading the instructions

Great job old boys, just a tip for next time, no need to take the right hand side exhaust strap off or the fan so that should speed things up!!
