356 wheels: Can someone fill me in about Minilites/Cookies?

My 5.5" Chrome wheels are heavy buggers (nothing worse than heavy wheels

), and I'm not right keen on the chrome-ness either, and quite fancy some minilites as a (cheaper?) alternatives to Fuchs. Maybe in satin black..

It seems that they come in 15 x 5.5 for 356's, and you can either pay through the nostrils for the original magnesium ones or get some newer aluminium ones by minilite, or even replicas?

Looks like I'll be considering the latter. Are the ally ones nice and light, then? Are they available at sensible money? Straight fit without spacers?

Also, do Cookie Cutters fit straight on? Are they light too?

you can't get much lighter than Fuchs, Cookie Cutters are cheap though but I'm not sure how they would look on a 356

I know of a few 912 with mini lights they look great and I am sure they would look cool on the 356 have you small diamter bolt holes?

Cookies bolt straight on and look the best satin black with slim polished lip... I do believe that somebody on here's selling a set of the right 6" and 7" combo for a measly 125 quid (plus the parcelforce mugging)

I have seen one pic of a 356 on cookies in Jim Schrager's book, looks quite good - better in a dark colour though.

Sounds good cubist. You couldn't stick one on your bathroom scales could you?

Also, is 6 and 7 not a bit wide for me little 75-horse tub?

Still a bit keener on Minilites, seem to be the choice of racer types..

The new aluminium minilites in 15x5.5 are about £115 each.

No where near as light as the original mag wheels but these are a) v hard to find b) bl**dy expensive and c) possibly quite dangerous after 35 years.

Believe there are a number of other manufacturers that make copies that are in fact better made and lighter but more expensive (like twice the price).

Was chatting to Chris Flavell (fetuhoe on here) the other day about minilites and he seems to have a good knowledge of the good ones to buy.

PS have that picture on my PC of the blue racing 356 on minilites and one of my fave 356s so love the minilite look.

Those Mini's look gorgeous but the Zeppelin rubber choice on that blue one's a bit suspect. Very dirigible
