Mark,
I'll take a picture tomorrow night and post it up. He will be sitting on his cushion, but it sounds like using a base from the Maxi cosi Rodi and a four point could be the way forward.
All the booster seat bases I have looked at are far too wide and square to fit.
James, Does the base separate from the back on the Rodi?

The bases can be made up I have made a base for jo in the Nurburge seats as she finds them uncomfortable but the base works perfect and is vynal covered to match. So no reason why I can't make another for the rear of the car and use the same hard foam with a 3/4" soft foam topping.
I would much rather have any child bolted in to a 4 point harness ( kids one ) rather than a car seat but open to idea's

The maxi cosi rodi has a seperate base & a seperate back that 'click' together.
Here is a piccy from over 12months ago ( before i replaced the front seats with my cool leather '73 recaros
). Maxi Cosi in teh front & Britax in the rear. I will add that the britax does fit but can take a bit of effort to get it fitting tight. I personally find it feels more secure in a 'normal' car. The maxi Cosi fits really well, with the shoulder bart of the belt threaded through the guides on teh seat back. As mentioned though, the 993 belt I have is too short for the maxi cosi so I will need to get it extended at some point with new webbing.

I usually have both of the girls sat in teh back
This it the 993 reel that I have fitted on one side. At the moment I have a 'quickfitsbs' one on the other side but I will replace that with another 993 reel as soon as I have time.

My biggest problem these days is tboth daughters are going through a phase of not liking the Porsche
.. they both love the G-wagen & always want to go out in that instead
, which is a pain as the Porsche is more fuel efficient than the G !
