In view of my official status, I booked my room a month or so ago.

I spoke a to a nice girl on reception, and explained that I was after a single room. She paused, put me on hold, and came back saying THE single room was available (in the sort of tone that implied that they would clear out the broom cupboard just for me: you sad git ).

Still on the plus side, she did say 'I'm sure we can sort you out with someone', so it seems that there is an excellent concierge service available .
