1973 2.4S

I thought it was about time I started a new thread for my car with updated photos

My car is a 1973 2.4S complete with matching numbers engine & gearbox with about 75000miles on the clock. Originally specced & supplied for the Italian market with light yellow ( 117 hellgelb) paint, tinted glass & recaro sport seats. The cars has no other extras & even has wind up windows

As it is a LHD it was also fitted as standard with the plastic 80Lt fuel tank.

UPDATE : I now have the Italian history

The car was originally bought in 1973 by a 30year old gentleman from the VICENZA area, who kept the car until 1994

. It then went into the hands of another local Italian who it appears used it for Historic regularitys ( there is evidence of a Halda being fitted ). The car was imported into the UK in the 1998 where it was kept in storage for a few years, only venturing out every so often to have a run through Europe to the South of France.

UPDATE : More history details

According to the 2nd Italian owner, he sold it to a German in 1998 . My records show it was UK registered 17th March 1998

I have no details of the import

Seems paperwork was not treasured then as it is today.

After import is where I'm missing info .... because according to Mark Waring the car also passed through his hands at some point, here are the photos he's got on his website

I do know a Mr Harrington was owning it in 1999 as I have a receipt for gearbox rebuild ( done in the south or France ! ) It appears he was the 1st UK reg keeper.

The previous owner to me bought the car via EH in Dec 2001 & I bought it in 2003

Anyway, car is pretty much all stock. The only modifications I have done are fitted a 380mm 'RS' steering wheel and elephant racing bushes all round. The car is also lower than standard.

And, we can tell from the photos, well used.
You've had some fun with it, eh?

I'm now regularly using all 7,000+rpm on mine and beginning to realise just why the 2.4S is so well regarded.

Thought I'd do a bit of an update since the last post was well over 1 year ago

The main work I have done is tackle the suspension.

Followed by a full corner weight & alignment @ Tuthills

What a transformation ... the car now handles predictably and I can be a lot more confident with it

Other jobs in the last 12 months were little ones like replacement of oil tank with a 'new' restored one & playing around with different spark plugs.

Apart from that I have been racking up the miles with trips to France, Scotland, Wales + numerous blasts around Yorkshire . Of course I now have a list of jobs to do over winter which will include a re-build of the MFI pump as the fuel delivery needs to be improved

Winter is almost over

Managed to get some more jobs done over the winter. Most were teh usual eg new front wheel bearings, disks etc, Valve clearances. One of the bigger jobs was :

MFI Pump overhaul

Visited Bob Watson & did some more power runs resulting in these figures

204.53hp @ 6900 rpm

216Nm @ 5690 rpm

Very pleased with those numbers, but as is always the case now feel I could do with more

Apart from little bits of fettling I've done little else to the car this year apart from driving it .

Highlight of the year so far was taking the car back to the factory & then through the alps

Great to see you enjoying the car James. Your money's done VERY much better in that car than in a pension fund. Much more fun too.
