Early seat question

OK, this is an odd one (but what do you expect from me?). The padding in the driver's seat in my 912 has collapsed, meaning that a shortarse like me is now sitting even lower in the car than normal. The passenger seat is OK. Dumb question: is it possible to swap the seat bases from one side to the other? I know I'd need to swap the backrests, with the reclining mechanism, and the runners, with the seat adjusters, but is it physically possible to dismantle the seats and swap the bottom halves over? Just a thought.

I'll go back to sleep now...

Hi Keith,

Nope, the release handles are sided. On SWB cars the are both on the outside and then from 68-69 it changes to the inside.

..define 'padding' too. It might just be a case of new webbing straps which is far easier to do than seat swaps!

Jus about to post that I've discovered they're 'handed' too!

The horsehair padding has disintegrated and slipped through the (soggy) springs. As a stop-gap until I replace/repair the seats, I'll poke some upholstery-grade foam inside so I can see over the steering wheel!

I just refurbed my seats, similar sort of thing - padded up the horse hair with some 'Dacron' from my loceal fabric shop - (Dunelm Mills)
Cost - about a fiver, Made some base boards from hardboard to stop the springs going through the seat bottom frame and covered them with some thin acoustic foam
Works a treat
