cheap carpet!

£45 worth of auto carpet from Woolies (www.woolies-trim.co.uk) and an afternoon spent using a loaned carpet set as a template (thanks Stuart) - it isn't perfect but it's a big improvement compared to the car when I bought it a few months back. It will certainly do until I take the plunge and buy a proper moulded set. Now all I need is to find the knee pad for the dash...

Very satisfying indeed - I have the cuts and bruised knuckles to prove it as well! I've still got the areas around the back seats to do... nothing like leaving the most difficult bits until last!

I did the same budget job with mine using the woolies materials, as my car had next to no carpet when I bought it.

Good luck with the rear seats, they are the fun bit

Well, I figured that anything is better than nothing - and the previous owner had stripped everything out and just left the disintegrating rubber mats. The stripped out race-car feel starts to lose its appeal when you're commuting in the car every day!

it took me about 7 years to track down the correct rubber rear footwell mat! I ended up having to buy a complete set just to get the one I needed....

For now I've put the rubber mats beneath the carpet as a bit of sound deadening and extra protection and then put some new overmats on the top so that the driver's side carpet doesn't wear too quickly.

Hi Stuart - there have been a few oddities so far, but I think much of that is just down to different fittings rather than SWB to LWB. But with the overal shape of pieces fitting there have been just minor modifications to cutouts etc that needed to be done as the new carpet was going in.

I've brought all of the stuff with me to work today so I can begin to attack the rear sections in my lunch hour - you'll probably be able to hear my swearing from your place!

Bootsy - well observed! I wondered if anyone would spot the sudden transformation with the seats. The original basket-weave seats were ripped and collapsed inside but I was offered me the ones in the photo from a '65 911. I've kept the originals in the hope that one day I will get around to fixing and recovering them but I don't think the replacements look too out of place... and they're certainly more comfortable!

I have to say I used a company called CP wood house for my carpet set he has my old one ( lwb ) as a template and it was £100 for the lot. there is no shapped carpet sets. they are as flat as you made yours. It's how you fit that makes a carpet, looks good.

I don't mind making carpet sets but it's the time it takes, which is why I don't. Too many people in the trade will do it all day long for sensible money, so I use them

Makes all the difference. The carpet is cheap it's some thing like 21 bits ( shapes to make a complete one ) and it takes time. I have an industrial sewing machine to do alterations.
