Depends on where 'up North'1972_911t wrote:Can anyone recommend a good shop for setting up suspension geometry on a 911, im in the process of changing all my suspension bushings and my ride height and want to have it all re-aligned afterwords.
Red Line Racing in Teeside have a full Biesbarth alignment system - however if it's an early car, the 'factory' settings on the computer aren't always the 'best' you can achieve.
Dave Sutherland at Strasse in Leeds knows the early cars well.
Personally, I'd use Robert Gant at Gantspeed in Lincolnshire - if that's not too far 'south' for you!
However, the 'best' set up early car I have ever driven (now owned by Gone in 60 Seconds!) was done by Parr - who are 'very' darn sarf

My SWB suspension was set up (for the previous owner) by Gantspeed.
I have no idea as to the cost, although I'm sure the bill is in the huge ledger that came with the car, but it handles very well and has a very comfortable ride. They certainly seem to know what they're doing.

Gantspeed are in Mareham-le-Fen which is just the other side of Boston - website: www.gantspeed.co.uk
As to price - phew - the one lesson I've learned with Robert is make sure you explain *exactly* what you want. For example, do you want the suspension joints overhauled? Components blasted then coated? The time it'll take will be dependant on how much work is required to undo the bolts etc. You may want to do the work freeing off the bolts / nuts, then re-tightening for transport to Roberts on a trailer - might save *hours* of chargeable work = money.
This is the kind of discussion I've had with Robert many times before - and he's always very agreeable - if you explain that *all* you want is the suspension aligned and the car set up he'll do just that.
From memory most Biesbarth users charge iro £400 for an analysis and setup, again dependant on how long it'll take to get things undone - but it's best to talk to Robert or David - 01507 568474.
Good luck

I mailed them today they quoted best part of 400 with the dreaded vat 6 hours labour at 53.50. Before I have it done im going to change all the bushings and paint all my arms up so all the bolts will have been losend. so that will minimise the time spent on the job.

It may be worth pm'ing Tim Bennett (impmad2000) - he knows a guy down Leicester way (only an hour or so from Doncaster; my wife's from Balby
) and Tim speaks very highly of him.
As a Yorkshireman myself, you may like Tim's contacts pricing a little more too!

A mate had his '70 T set up By Chris at GC racing. He build's, sets up and prepares classic 911's for the race boys. He is Leicester based. He gets very busy in Race season, and just before the season starts, but might be available this time of year. Give him a call 0116 2832211.

I have just clarified with gantspeed what they quoted six hours for, this will include all suspension geometry including front and rear ride height. They also said they added extra time on as had been suggested for freeing up of bolts.
That price seems fairly resonable at that including ride height to get a quality job done.
