Fenn Lane Titanium caliper pistons?

Post by IanM »

Chris Flavell used to make titanium caliper pistons (6AL4V Grade 5) but sadly, as you know, he's no longer around, so I'm wondering whether anyone here has an unused set (new) that they'd like to sell?

48mm fronts (for S-caliper)
38mm rears (M-caliper)

Thanks.

Nope, sorry.
Not the same thing, but you'll be aware of the PMB hard anodised aluminium pistons* (for aluminium calipers) which I believe aim to solve the same problems: https://www.pmbperformance.com/catalog/ ... 573492.htm
They are working for me, but early days.

*Of course Chris always claimed they were rubbish and the Titanium ones were the only sensible option. Happy days.

Yes, they are.

The down side is that they [aluminium] expand more than a conventional steel piston TCE is around twice that of conventional steel , they transfer heat easily into the brake fluid HTC is 5 times greater than conventional steel.

Well, Chris had contacts with two sub-contractors who made pistons for AP Racing, but I don't know who were they. Does anybody know?

I would prepare a cad drawing of the items, they are a pretty simple shape, and get googling, I have just bought some titanium brake banjo bolts with bleed screws from a bloke in Kidderminster making titanium m/c brake parts and selling them on ebay.....but a call to BG Developments in Bromsgrove would probably take you where you need to go.....they are agents for and subcontractors to AP Racing.

Perhaps I should have listened!
Ah well, at least they aren't rusting. Sounds like I'm a customer when you get some Ti ones made... 8)

That sounds like a good lead... not out of the question they might already have the drawings, given the geography....

I have a spreadsheet somewhere with all the parts that Chris had manufactured and was in the process of manufacturing. China was the main supplier, Argentina for casting pistons and final machining in the UK was mentioned. Ill dig it out and see if it has any manufacturers details on it

Hi
I own a casting company that Chris used to use from time to time . I cast the weld in seat belt harness brackets for him and we did the development of the cast injection high butterfly throttle bodies . Unfortunately we never got paid for any of the work .
Thanks Dave
