2.8 Rolling road report

Post by glovebox »

Hi to All, not been on for a while. Been busy during the winter months, I decided to have a go at building a new engine for the car.
Previously converted to a 2.2T which was great fun. But always thought of building my own. So went down the 2.8 twinplug path. Used the same bb headers and exhaust from the previous motor and decided to use the zeniths as well, one reason was to help with the budget and one reason to see if it was possible?
So rolling road yesterday. The second of 2 and hopefully the last for a while .....228hp and 275 Nm worth of Torque!! Can’t wait for the weekend :)))))

Started as a 1974 2.7 cid.
It’s now based on a 2.8 RS kind of setup including twinplug.
I can dig out the cam, valve and compression info if you want?
Re jetted Zeniths, and ignition is Marelli look alike with 123 ignition inners. SS BB Headers and SS Bursch exhaust.
I ran it for 2 months or so as single plug. Hence the first figures on the report.
When I had all the original engine machining work done I had the heads drilled anyway. So it was always on the radar.
So bit the bullet and here we are.

Pretty looking 914 :) but now goes like stink :))))))

Regards Mark.

Excellent!

I'm not sure I'm reading the graph correctly - as I understand it you've got figures that compare same engine, first with single plug setup, then with twin plugs? if so a really nice way to clarify the differences on power and torque - can you confirm what they were?

Also, please could you give a little more detail on the twin plug ignition - distributor and how you're firing both setts of plugs etc? This is a medium/longer terms project aspiration for me.

Many thanks
Magnus

Hi Magnum, yes the red graph is with the single plug set up with a 123 Distributor.
Blue line is from a couple of weeks ago after converting to twin plug. I used Permatune Boxes and coils, plus Marelli reproduction with 123 inners which is Bluetooth which makes it a bit easier when tuning. Obviously only a nice to have.
