Hi Everybody,
Recently bought an "ebay restoration" project - hoping I don't regret it... any help and advice much appreciated as I attempt to start down what will likely be quite a long road against the usual time (Still in harness with a day job) and budget constraints - I can supply labour and am an engineer, but I don't have full workshop facilities and the necessary practiced welding skills / specialist knowledge for restoration of old Porsche shells required.
Intend to keep the car / have as a retirement project - had similar car previously that I regretted selling for little money... that was at least a working / running car.
Link to car for pictures...
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1972-Porsche ... 9ck%252BZn
First step is to get the car stripped down and then all the rust removed so it can be welded by suitable expert on a jig and the metalwork / panels replaced... think the panels will all need replaced along with the roof if the car is not too far gone structurally to be worth doing.
Barry Carter (Who I understand is expert and well known for restoring older 911's) has kindly offered to take a look to establish the extent of works required to get back to a solid shell as a start point for the rebuild.
The previous owner sold the car with a spare roof and 2.4 engine in parts - so will have to learn how these go back together.
Was wondering if it was possible to get any further history on the car - previous owners / original engine number traced in any way ?

Ahhh, you are that brave man!! This car was discussed on here somewhere.
Welcome to DDK, you’ll find everything you need on here, and if you are already in contact with Barry you’ve started down the right road.
I’m doing the body on my own ‘72 right now and that looked like a good car from the outside...
Lots of pictures needed in a proper restoration thread.

Welcome to Ddk . You will be in very safe hands with Barry . Plenty of cars have looked better than yours , but turned out to still need probo the same amount of work. Sometimes it’s easier if it needs the big panels rather than loads of time being needed with loads of small repair sections.
Quite a few 2.4E resto threads on here so have a good read with a glass of wine or 2 ... then you’ll be suitably pi55ed by the time you get 1/2 way through

I’ve got a Rhd rear wiper arm NOS for a 73 car. That’s a helluva start towards your restoration.
The rest should be a breeze.
Brave man taking that on. Barry is the man but you are going to need deep deep pockets and a few years to spare to get it back on to the road. All best wishes to you and thanks for saving another.
Welcome to Ddk.
Regards
Mike

Welcome to the forum Hobbit and congratulations with your purchase. A wonderful car in a fabulous colour with a great specification and one that's definitely worth saving.....a 2.4E is a wonderful thing
I've used Barry on a couple of occasions and it's the best value money I've ever spent on my cars.......one of the greatest most honest Porsche specialists this community has and a wonderful guy too. Lucky for you that you've caught Barry at a time where his waiting list is really quite short, just don't nick my slot!
Best of luck with your project and please keep us posted with your progress
Cheers,

Another wholehearted Barry recommendation here. Like Darren I'm a past customer who has another slot booked in the fairly near future.
Good luck, enjoy the journey, and enjoy the resto threads in the meantime.
Cheers, Richard.
