Interesting but dare I say it. I would rather have a nice cheap 2nd hand Boxster

And most people buying new would probably rather have something with a Porsche badge unfortunately- sounds like it’s a great little car but I suspect ultimately it will fail due to being an unknown name outside of “car circles”
It’s a shame because I think their concept of being considerably lighter is right on the money vs cars like the 370z or the cayman or the z4 where small increments of weight reduction are achieved from time to time..

My “dream concept” has been for someone to come in with a lightweight lower powered car for a while that focuses on driving experience without constantly touting to headline bhp numbers and ludicrous (largely unachievable on the road) speeds. I’ve discussed this a lot with a couple of friends and we came up with the wish list (back when bmw announces there would be a hot 2-series) of -

Carbon core like the 7 series aiming for around 1000-1100kg kerb weight
230-ish bhp from a nice 2.3 4 pot na engine (2.3 is to bmw what 2.7 is to Porsche)
Manual box (possibly a dogleg for posterity like Porsche did recently)
Hydraulic power steering
50-50 weight
Rear wheel drive

...we were so far off the mark it was untrue

Love it. I'd have that over a Cayman. Over a Boxster? That's a harder decision. If the Alpine had a real gearbox?

I love it, but I've always liked the original A110 especially in Rally attire.

Fantastic that someone (other than Lotus) has gone down the lightweight, agile route, rather than the recent vogue for big power, fat tyres etc, etc. Shame there's no manual option, but I hope it does well.

IMHO a very wise choice.
Good looks
Good performance
Good Size
Good rarity
Good economy!

Only downside for me would be the small luggage spaces limits how many days away you can take.

Make mine a white one please:

Been following some of the reviews for a while Henry catchpole on carfection (YouTube) amongst others.

I haven’t heard a less than positive review. James May and Gordon Murray have both bought one.

The overwhelming oponion is that the lightness makes everything special but it’s still very livable (as opposed to say an Elise)

My business partner wants to get a new car so I could as well and I immediately thought of the alpine.

Had a test drive the other week. It felt fabulous - down bumpy, curvy B roads it was awesome - the soft suspension and light weight meant it felt sure and planted the whole time.

As a party piece, for the route back he took us down a road with speed bumps - we took them all at around 25 miles per hour and there was less fuss than in the wife’s Audi estate.

I was smitten. There was a price rise yesterday (not massive 2%) so I used that as an excuse and ordered it on Wednesday.

I’m told waiting list about 6 month now. Very excited.

I’ll keep the Porsche but be able to take longer over projects with it.

Wow! How exciting! I'd be climbing the walls having to wait six months! Very cool decision. 8)

Great stuff, the 911 will become more special to drive now that it isn’t a daily.

Excellent choice Mark !!

I have little/no interest in modern cars but the Alpine is one of the very few exceptions ...
