I've bought a RHD 914

Post by andytat »

Hi all.

I've just bought a RHD 914 with a 3.0SC engine and 915 gearbox.
More to come when it arrives from Singapore in about a months time.

Wow! Not another 3.0SC engined 914 ;-)

Add on the RHD aspect and that makes it probably only one of 2 to this spec in the UK, so really special (the other one being Wayne's hill climb car)
Is it a Crayford conversion?

Hi James.

Yes, it's a Crayford conversion.
I'm working on the history of the car as it spent some time in Australia before
going to Singapore in 1980.
It was very comprehensively rebuilt by Ruf SEA in Singapore in 1995 with 911
front suspension and steering, 930 tie rods, 914/6 GT chassis strengthening kit,
964 front brake calipers and A/C was fitted at the time.
It's still narrow bodied with Fuchs wheels, a real sleeper!
I'm really excited and can't wait to get the car.

Unfortunately Stuart, I don't have any pics of the car but as soon as it arrives
I'll post some.
Thanks Wayne. I remember talking 914's with you at either Shelsley or Prescott
a few years ago. Hopefully, in the future I'll be bringing along to some events.

Cheers.

Hi Mike.

The gearbox is really quite special, read expensive! It's a 915 with the crownwheel flipped.
Before I moved back to the UK about 5 years ago I spent a lot of the owners money
trying to improve the gearshift. I fitted a Wevo tailshift housing and gubbins as well
as an internal Wevo gateshift and a Wevo shift lever. That lot together with
aircraft quality uj's and the gearshift is very very nice! I also changed the front engine
mounting bar for the short, bulkhead mounted set up from Patrick Motorsports. That
was to stop the engine movig backwards and forwards so much and interfering with
the gear change. It did cost a lot of money though!
The engine was std but with Webers but the owner wanted to make it a bit more civilised
so I refitted the KJet intake.

Raymond.
I'm very good thanks, hows the race car?. Photos will be posted as soon as I have my
sticky little fingers on the car over here.

Cheers.
