Engine Tuning

Post by 67Matt »

Having removed engine for the restoration, and fitting carb refurb kit and electronic ignition since re-installing, I am now looking for someone who knows 912 engines to tune it.
Stamford/Rutland/Peterborough area would be ideal - anyone have any recommendations?
Many thanks,
Matt

Worth speaking to Northampton Motorsport - they're not know specifically for Porsche work, but they've done work on Porsches. They are very good at what they do, and they specialise in rolling road tuning / set-up, plus are reasonably priced. They also offer carb rebuilding services, so are accustomed to setting up and adjusting carburettor-fed engines

If you don't mind travelling a bit further I'd recommend Peter Burgess.

Peter's rolling road is the one to go for and somewhat need you.

Proper old school tuner.

However please remind us what carbs you have? If you have weber and the jets were about ok before then you can have a go yourself with this helpful sheet.

Even I can get my car pretty good with this cheat sheet.

Or you could find a classic VW place need you or use one of the DDK supports. PRS (in Essex), Revival Cars (by Hearthrow).

That Jack Staggs info looks useful but seems to be a little unreadable, could do with a higher res scan ideally.

+1 for Wilshers. Peter Baldwin is an ace tuner. I had loads of Minis before I got into these precious things and he is world famous in Mini circles used to race them and my car was better after he'd had it for an hour or so than at any other time. His rolling road is great and he's a super interesting guy. Thanks for reminding me of him. I'm getting a TurboThomas exhaust and I couldn't remember his name to get him to tune it !!!

For general repair work on the 912 I wouldn't go past Max at Revival he is absolutely superb. And an incredibly nice guy.
