Are Bitza 911's the best value now?

Post by 911hillclimber »

Perfect matching numbers, correct carpet, good original paint and the right door pockets and grommets that seem to call the highest prices are now so high, even when soe seem to be falling in value.

There must be cars like mine that were missing the above attributes even in the late 80's, the Bitza cars, the non-matching hot rods, the modified cars.

Are these mongrels the afford able early 911's even though their values are not as exponential to rise (and fall?) as the current crop of 'perfects'?

My 911 have a real chassis number for a '73T but a lot is not '73 on the car, but looks nearly right and has 230 bhp.

Figure out how much it would cost to pay someone to put it back to 100% original spec and matching numbers (ish) and then take that off the top whack price for a top banana car and that might give you an idea of it's value. Maybe?!?!

Nope, not for sale.
Just started it after a slumber of 8 weeks, instant, no smoke and 130K ish engine, never been apart ever. Drove arrow straight and on modern tyres too!

My thought was serious. With the 'best' cars asking top money, or should that be unobtanium money, for many a bitza might be the best thing at about 1/2 the cost?
I'm thinking cars well down the ladder from Darren's hotrod.

The prospective buyer of such cars just needs to be on the right page when they look at investment value.

Also, not EVERYBODY ships all the work out to specialists, so DIY (called an enthusiast) the lot and the rebuild as opposed to restoration cost can be almost palatable/ affordable as your time is free.

Ha!
TOO many long memories on these threads!

30 mpg with the stock 3.2 driven in cruise mode, bit less on 'attack' if such an attitude can be exercised in the West Midlands.

Leaves bumper clinging Rage Rover Sports dead for about 20 seconds and you drop a few gears and floor it. The stench from the exhausts kills them off too.

I like that as a good start point, works for me, matching no.'s E but modded interior, suspension and engine.

But what does "best value" mean? Originality adds value - but doesn't proportionally add enjoyment. I've tended to buy cars because I thought I could enjoy them for a long time - and that's what has happened, but I've made some spectacularly bad decisions on the point at which to sell!

No backdates are the affordable ones, mine looks the part, it sounds the part, and it's a hoot to drive. I'd hate to think what my previous orange "bitza" is worth now in comparison.
Cheers
