Suggestions for another car, please

Post by Mick Cliff »

Looking to put a bit of excitement back into driving.....

Currently have diesel Skoda VRS SE as an everyday 'tool' - economical and bloody good value!

Also have a R129 Mercedes 500SL as a 'toy' - effortless and silent mile-muncher. Love it..... and will keep it!

BUT -I need something with a bit more excitement! Missed out on an Elan Sprint from Uncle Peter recently, serves me right for dithering!

So, suggestions (non-Porsche) please? Why not Porsche? Don't reallY like anything newer than '73 and have a (Yorkshire!) aversion to the premium prices that the early cars attract! Budget - up to circa £20k.

It is excellent - saw it yesterday! Hardly exciting performance though?

Lancaster Fulvia - interestingly, Peter apparently has a kit of bits to make one of these. But I think my days of intense spannering are over :(
Sprog Eye Fright? Used to rally a Midget back in the day. Doubt I could get into one now! Loads of fun though!
Elise..... Hmmmm
Autobianchi - I know nothing of these, more research needed!

Thanks for the suggestions Andy

Plenty of nice Fulvia coupes within your budget needing no assembly or restoration work - don't be put off by the 1300cc engine - S1's are particularly beautifully engineered.

Have a look at Targa Florio Classics' website for some info on A112's:

Exciting yes but a bit too modern for me.
Should add another parameter - needs to be on classic (cheap!) insurance

Ah! 'Sports' version of the Morris Oxford?
One has caught my eye - MGB V8 roadster (I know they only made the V8 version in the GT) but it's vastly overpriced at the moment

Roadsters are nice, Hayley's sister had three of them. She was on first name terms with all the RAC relay drivers, still sends them Christmas cards.

How about this beautifulness...

One of my favourites non Porsche - Alpina B3. Cheap, reliable and fast.
Can be found as Coupé, Limo, Touring and Cabriolet, manual or Switch-tronic (Alpinish for an automatic).

Mine is a 2002 Touring Switch-tronic, 3,3 Litre 280hp. Loads of fun...
