Silverstone auction

Post by brembo »

This seems a bit of a bargain if it stays close to estimate - https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/197 ... 11-2.7-MFI

Without even looking at it I'd say most auction 'estimates' are totally and utterly pointless and in no way reflect:-

1. What the person selling the car wants for it or their reserve may be
2. What the actual value of the car is
3. What it will sell for

If it does sell within an estimate these days it seems to be more luck than judgement!

5 lots down
2 sold and one of those had no reserve and sold for 14k (lot 201)

Wonders whether reserves are too high although it's early days in the auction...

Can't believe that Viper Green OPC 2.7 RS backdate (Lot 214) went for £154k + fees!! Someone is going to have a bad hangover in the morning.

2.7 RS bid to £352k and didn't hit the reserve by a very small margin. Looks like a nice car and cheap .... end of season sale!

Crazy, you could have built a whole lot more for that

Oddly enough, that looks like being the mad moment. Sure it's lovely and rust free but a lot hasn't sold and generally that which did was around the lower end of the reserve. This looks like being one of the few cars to sell above upper end!

Interesting result on Lot 201. It had been advertised and discussed on here:

1960 Porsche 356 T5‘B’ Super 90 RHD AFN Demonstrator

but at nearly £30 K.

Better bet @ £15...........

The Viper Green OPC 3.2 backdate was bought by an extremely wealthy chap with a large collection of Porsches, this would be a toy for him. IMO was was worth about £60K. The RS was sold after the bidding, for around £10K over bid price IIRC. A very nice looking SC sold for mid thirties. The 74 Carrera 2.7 hot rod was an Autofarm L to RHD conversion. A lovely LHD 2.4S was unsold at £100K, it was a beautifully presented and mostly correct. The market has definitely crashed!
