914 rubber window scrapers
morning all.
Ive been rebuilding my doors (locks, windows etc). Has anyone fitted the 914 rubber window scrapers?
Part numbers 914 531 873 10 and 914 531 874 10 sealing rubbers that fit along the window and keep the rain from dripping into the door.
Fitting was no real issue as a bit of washing up liquid allowed the rubber to be fed in to the channel fitted to the door however when you wind the window down they just pop out. The rubber (or what ever modern equivalent is used) is very flexible and also grips to the window so as soon as you wind the window down they jsut cave in. Actually they dont work much better when you wind the window up either.
Has anyone had the same issue? or are there any better parts available to use instead?
thanks
Andrew

Re: 914 rubber window scrapers
Give the rubber and window a good covering of talc, that will stop the rubber sticking to the glass. After a bit of use it will be fine.

Re: 914 rubber window scrapers
I had the same issue with mine. Currently the driver side doesn't have one as it popped out completely and I haven't got round to putting it back in.
I will try the talc trick when I get round to fixing it

I hope you have got lavender scented talc - you'll save money on airfreshners then as well!

Interesting problem. Could this be a quality issue...Where did you get the window rubbers from?

Hmmm,
Talc will be fine until it gets wet and what's your plan then for the sticky white putty you'll have Steve?

Re: 914 rubber window scrapers
Theyre from 914 rubber.. I have most of my rubber replacements parts from there. I havent tried too many yet so I cant tell you whether the other ones work or not but it seems to be a popular place to get bits from so I had assumed theyd be all goodNAT wrote:Interesting problem. Re: 914 rubber window scrapers
Ive asked Mark at 914 rubber what he recommends. See what he says.
Im sure once the newness rubs off the rubber they should be less sticky. Or Ill get alternate ones..

Re: 914 rubber window scrapers
I contacted Mark at 914rubber about this problem. He now does a "genuine" seal sold under licence for a few dollars more than the dragging/folding ones.
It's got to be the best solution of all.

Re: 914 rubber window scrapers
The talc just coats the rubber and stops it sicking, it soon disappears. It causes no long term problems at all, most rubber components you buy have already been coated in talc to take away the mould release compound.Darren C wrote:Hmmm,

Re: 914 rubber window scrapers
I follow your reasoning Steve, but practically you shouldn't need to put anything on the seals, they should just work.
