73T hot rod: agreed (re) valuation?
Time to re-insure my 73T hotrod. (3.2 engine/suspension mods/non original interior/non original paint/colour/DIY lhd to rhd/sunroof; but goes like stink and MoT with ease.)
Last valued at £30K 12 months ago. Quoted £213 by Hagerty.
Just considered the value 12 months on, and working from the premise that if it 'went' and I had £30k in hand, will it by me the 'same' car.
took a look at Piston Heads and typed in £30K max.
Not an early car in sight, some nice looking 3.2/G50 and such like coupes, but no pre-73's.
Not sure to leave it as it is, or pester for another valuation, and if so what is realistic?

Re: 73T hot rod: agreed (re) valuation?
Hi Graham what did hagerty think about the cage, did it make any difference re insurance and are you on a limited mileage policy as £213 seems very good, I'm a bit of insurance yet but good to have an idea".........Mark..

Re: 73T hot rod: agreed (re) valuation?
Mark;
Mod on the car supported by pictures gave Hagerty no issues at all. If anything it is the bigger engine that scares, but having fitted it about 15 years ago they felt I was 'safe'. They asked why the car was so modified, and after explaining all the hill climb stuff all was well.
4000 miles/30k/£213
15 years ago it was £110...but 15K value.
I will delve a bit deeper on what is needed to buy a non matching number car, 1973T, but I think this will be well north of 30K.
I've had some interesting pm's on the value this evening.
however, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay.
This is no Barry -bodyshell/Bob Watson engine car.
Just a humble imperfect DIY hotrod with 230 bhp in 1000Kg that has been utterly enjoyed for decades with me.

Re: 73T hot rod: agreed (re) valuation?
Had the valuation done by John, recommended by a fellow DDK'r.
Got that this afternoon and just read it having been racing on the hill; I need to sit down with a glass of good red wine.
Be interesting to see Hagerty's response (premium hike for sure).

Re: 73T hot rod: agreed (re) valuation?
One thing about Hagerty, they sure are fast!
For this car and where I live (nice area, but West Midlands) £360/4000 miles/65K value. v £213/ 4000 miles / 30k
I'm really not sure my hot rod is worth that but this was not disputed, but we all only need a £1,000,000 RS to get to the media and it may be the market price and even hotter for the thieves...mainly because all the RS's will be in a vault.
I like Hagerty's speed to respond so will stay with them and they support DDK too.
I've suggested they run the Tax Office.

£65k!!!!!!!
I'll admit the valuation reports and market condition reports I've supplied to insurers lately do not show that sort of appreciation in 12 months and I thought I was being accurate and generous

Re: 73T hot rod: agreed (re) valuation?
Shocked me too I assure you.
However with the reports of these cars being taken and all early cars look very similar they could take mine away thinking it was valuable, doubt they check too much.
The spate of thefts recently has tainted ownership esp when you go away. My wife especially gets concerned we will be car-less one morning at SPA, hence no 911 road-trip this year.
I will go with it. I would rather pay the 130 extra and have the cheque if it goes.
The acid test was with a £30K cheque in hand it would not buy any early car on pistonheads except a numbers matching rusty 71T LHD for 30 something K.
With a 65K cheque you have a great choice of cars, and I know of one I would buy at the blink of an eye.
Where does this all stop.

Re: 73T hot rod: agreed (re) valuation?
I agree £30k would not buy something to replace it
And I suppose if the value is agreed then it's fine as there shouldn't be any issues on paying out if the worse happens.
I agree values need to be based on what can be bought in the market
For example a glance in the classifieds show a very nice E for £76000 and another RHD UK E (just sold) for £58000. Having valued (for insurance) an E this week and providing other comparable available cars in the market £65k just seems high. However if the insurance company accept it and as stated there's no issues if a claim ever has to be made than that's ok

Re: 73T hot rod: agreed (re) valuation?
I just bumped my agreed valued on the 356 to 70k (from 60k) they agreed so quickly it makes me think that I'm not high enough.

Hagerty are always very quick to respond, they boast about this on their adverts, and it is true.
Had my new quote in hours with all documents by email.
No quibbles so I will take it.
