My guess is 195k
Re: Another 'superb' '72 S... it's guess the price time agai
I'll guess 200k+ which after haggle and dealer comm would return circa 180k to the owner. 225k would be my upper bound without knowing the complete detail of the car.

As it's one of those really common LHD ones I'll have a stab at £150k.
Am I right?

Looks like the hazard switch has been added later judging by the unevenness of the dash material immediately surrounding it. Won't affect value.hot66 wrote:nice looking car .. shouldnt have Hazards though AFAIK for an Italain car.

Isn't that Shell sticker (on the air box) the later type that only came in on the '73 cars?

That takes £50K off the price.
On another note it's great to see another thread talking about the value of a 2.4S

I seem to remember when the prices didn't matter, and we all drove our car because they were brilliant fun. As you say, it's always good to see yet another price discussion.Bootsy wrote:9_1_1_S wrote: Isn't that Shell sticker (on the air box) the later type that only came in on the '73 cars?

It's funny that this is the same car that started the "£110k 2.4S thread"...
Re: Another 'superb' '72 S... it's guess the price time agai
all threads & discussions have a place on DDK .. hardcore might have their own opinions on valuation threads, but we've always been inclusive of all.Nick Moss wrote:I seem to remember when the prices didn't matter, and we all drove our car because they were brilliant fun. The great thing is now we can drive them and have brilliant fun without worrying about whether that is devaluing them. Just make sure your insurance valuation is up to date and get out and use it! Put another 50k miles of fun on a nice early 911 over the next few years and I bet it'll still be worth more than it is now, even allowing for routine servicing and repairs. How many buyers of modern sports cars can say that?Nick Moss wrote: I seem to remember when the prices didn't matter, and we all drove our car because they were brilliant fun. It is the 'market place discussion' thread after all.

Indeed, their forums are full of threads worrying about depreciation. Even my wife has remarked that 'it makes a change'.9_1_1_S wrote:The great thing is now we can drive them and have brilliant fun without worrying about whether that is devaluing them. I'm surprised Nick has a detrimental view though. Increased interest in the brand and the current Porsche cool board move = larger profit margin for restorers?
Equally keeping my perfect car perfect = more bills at specialists = good for everyone.
Either way I enjoyed my lhd 2.4te from Formulae Fuchs so much in 1999 I decided to buy another one. Shame the decimal point had moved on price.

I don't know Nick all that well, but I think I can safely say that the money side of things isn't his major motivation for spending his days fixing 911s. There are much easier ways to earn an OK living than restoring old cars.squirejo wrote:I'm surprised Nick has a detrimental view though. FWIW I think watching something you are passionate about slowly slipping away from those that are also passionate about it and into the hands of the kind of people who think only about money is something to be saddened by.
No doubt Nick consoles himself by spending all the extra earnings from this trend on Gucci shoes and that sort of thing.
