Le Mans 05

Post by Dyno Soar »

Is anyone from the DDK planning to go?

I am going however it will not be with the Porsche club as its quite pricey and you need a minimum of 2 people per car.

if anyone is going perhaps we could convoy or just meet up there and camp togeather??

I am planning on going in the new 911 however I may go in the Porsche rimmed Caravelle for comfort.

I'm probably gonna meet my mate Paul Herbert in his 914-6 GT (porsche World last month) it would be good to have a whole heap of us.

Ferry costs around 100quid return, camping at Maison Blanche is around 35quid..

What do ya'll think?? If a few of us are commited to going then I will endevour to bring the Porsche.

do you mean the classic...because its not until 2006...every two years...

If you mean another event, ignore my ramblings...

Mark :)
Dreaming of driving a pre-A 356, actually commuting in a Cayman and for the weekend, a 911 'thing', with a Carrera 3 engine ( we think).

I was planning on going, but haven't got 'round to booking yet.

Planning on booking camping and stand (prob ACO if avail).

What crossing are you planning?

It's PCGB for me - expensive but very enjoyable last year. Promises to be even better this time around with a new site and all.

In '06 I plan to go to the classic - no doubt PCGB will probably have a tie up with the organisers to get some 'perks' for members...
2006 RHD 997 Carrera (but DDK remains in my heart - also now no longer)
1972 LHD 2.4T with '73 2.4T CIS motor - gone to a new DDK home
1994 RHD 993 Carrera - gone!
1968 LHD 911L - was the Wife's but now in new hands :-(

Mark I am speaking of the regular 24hrs Le Mans event. :)
The Classic 06 like last years 04 event will be done with PCGB as it was awesome in every way. I loved it.

For the regular event this year I am planning on going on Thursday, possibly very early friday from Dover to Calais.

however nothing is set in stone.

That sounds like a good plan, are you going with the Porsche club aswell or just with mates?

This time around I am going to try to explore Le Mans alittle more. Also I would like to explore much of the circuit and try different vantage points.

It would be cool to hook up with a few fellas from here and also go for a cruise around the town like they do.

I'm travelling Portsmouth - Caen ovenight Thursday leaving 23:15.

Definately up for a meet up on Friday night (if I've got the tent on by then). Isn't there a bar almost next to the catheral?

Does anyone know where I can can a detailed map of the area, as although I've been a few times, I always get lost (especially when they start shutting the roads).

I'm camping with PCGB.

It's a good Idea!

My dad and I have already booked our ferries, if this post had of gone up last year, you guys could have also enjoyed our FIFTY QUID! crossings to Boulogne. We are sailing on thursday at 11:00 and returning Monday at around 21:00. As for camping, I think we are going for Terte Rouge, but open to suggestions.
I was waved at by Paul in his 914/6 at the Classic last year and also saw him at Brands.
I myself have just bought a tuned 2.2 six for my 914 and hope to have it ready in a month or two (I work at a classic car garage part time). Eventually it is to become a GT replica.
Dad is going in his 356A GT-alike.

I hope more people do come down. At the moment, I am being threatened with a Triumph invasion. My boss at the garage is a Triumph freak. You guys may have seen him and me in Retro Cars last month.

Anyway, my 914/(6) will be on the road soon, so hope to see everyone on the road when the weather gets better!

I might go if my car works. I haven't been to Le Mans since the early 90's (for the 24 hr bike races, not cars).

Does anyone have any links to sites that give a bit more info about camping etc (no jokes please!).

On bikes, we just used to turn up but I guess more people go to the car race. Traffic lights in the town used to be fun though. The gendarmes used to turn a blind eye to all but the most suicidal riders.
