Only two cars are build by Rometsch for Rengemeinschaft Berlin. This car is on a Beetle chassis and has Porsche Brakes, gearbox and engine.

In the topic on the Samba was posted a work plan for building the body and also five sectionals. I have printed this plans and have started the search for parts. I found an '66 rolling chassis.

So this is my inspiration:

A client from me is an autocad nert and he made the plans digital and printed the sections 1:1 for me.
The upper plan is the A-4 print from internet. I recieved 9 m2 paper from him.

I ditched the floorpanels and repaired the chassis where needed and made front axle adjusters to set the ride height.

Collecting parts:
I received an 914 Tacho. I am going to backdate it to original. Also The original steering wheel was probably from an early Beetle car.
For use on public road I need an Speed tacho but I can not find a suitable 52 mm one. So I will be using an digital Bike one.

After one week of measuring ... The first cut is the deepest...

At first the cut on the bottum so the cross section will stay untouched and the shortening will be unvisible.

More cutting and welding. The original car has the pedalcluster and master brakecilinder in the car because the driver sits against the rear torsion axle. So I cut the chassis for the handbrake to replace the bracket thad holds the pedalcluster.

Cut the tunnel and welded the original hole where the pedalcluster was:

Pedal cluster is more in the car. Removed 27,5 cm from the tunnel to receive an wheelbase off 210 cm. Spotwelded the tunnel before total welding.


Next problem is the reversed position of the hadbrake level of the original car.
This is how the Beetle handbrake is in the chassis:

Need to rotate the handbrake level 180 degrees and have to make other cable channels and longer cables...
Just paint no Bondo!
Welded the end of the cross section at the bottom:

And also welded the tunnel:

Changed the handbrake level and spotwelded in the chassis:

It works! And now remake the cable channels in the chassis and replace the gearshifter in the tunnel.

For a little bit more response I have shortened and widened the pedalcluster 3,5 cm.


Wheels .....
The original Rometsch wheels are 4J-16 inch. In the front of the car with 20 holes in it and at the back later Porsche wheels. These wheels are unfindale and also very expensive. So a mate of me made them for me. We used 15 inch Beetle wheels and made the holes in them.

Made the bracket to hold the master brake cilinder in the car. I can adjust the dept of bothe pedals. Also closed the tunnel.

Both wheels are finished and my mate has also made me an replica gearshift knob.

Gearbox fully cleaned and rebuild. Swingaxles cleaned and sprayed.

The postman brought this: An replica Deutz D15 steering wheel (has the same shape as an early Beetle wheel) and some electrical stuff:

I need to work on that steeringwheel to put some patina on it and also it needs some Porsche detail:

Put some patina on the wheel and sprayed it. Removed 2 cm of the back of the hub and made an steel adapterplate to match the aluminium Quick hub.
The Porsche emblem is from an key holder...

Also I have painted the bottum from the chassis for the second time:
