For the musicians on here!
On holiday, down on the Lizard,I was watching an old episode of Top Gear with Seasick Steve on it,he had his Morris Minor hubcap slide guitar with him,And from that point on I just had to do it,I set a budget of £25!
So Find suitable old donated hubcap and lump of ash....
I won this old pickup set on ebay..
Marking out..
Roughly saw, plane, chisel and sand a neck up...
Cheap set of machine heads from China,oh and 6mm threaded bar found in the shed along with a bit of brass....
Bolt it all together, second hand strings from one of my many guitars and....
It has another hubcap on the back, need to fret it too with something appropriate, but for now it sounds fantastic and Im reluctant to do any more, just need to brush up on my slide playing,I will try to get a video up in the next couple of days too..
Total cost was about £23.75 I think,oh and a few pints of homebrew cider thanks to Crispen Manners.......
My next project is an Oil/ petrol can guitar all I need is an old oil/petrol can!

Graham that is beautiful - almost as beautiful as the 356 you built for me!
Probably sounds almost as good too

Re: For the musicians on here!
But do you really need frets?
You could simply magic marker the fret scale and away you go, should get a good chord or 3 out of it!
Great little project and you could sell on ebay for a profit if you wanted to.
Bet it sounds better than my gibson did last night (much over-rated instrument)

I have a Tokia Les Paul copy. A fraction of the price of a Gibson and still sounds much better than I will ever be able to play it!
I love the Blues but Seasick Steve could of bought some nicer instruments by now. After all when Muddy moved to Chicago he went electronic with style no beaten up cr*ppy guitars! I a M A N!

The hobo look is Seasick Steve's brand though, give him a nice shiny gheeetar and he ain't Seasick Steve.

Re: For the musicians on here!
looks fantastic! love it
you can buy fret bar easy enough, i think the issue will be cutting the grooves accurately.. from memory (from trying to re-position a bridge) fret 12 should be directly under the 1st natural harmonic, and you can work back from there

Re: For the musicians on here!
The scale is well documented I think.
Fret wire can be had just tricky to fit. Your neck wood may not take the frets well, so a drop of glue needed.
You need to mark the positions so mark the first 6 frets from the top nut and try a chord or 3?

Re: For the musicians on here!
Thanks for the comments!
I was going to just do a few frets,as Im mainly playing blues type music on it,I have a massive collection of guitars for other styles....
I thought about some kebab sticks, but somebody suggested I use a thick wire and run it around the neck then, twist it behind run it down and around again like lockwire!,I will see!,I will get a video up next week, filmed in a suitable location like a Porsche maybe...

Re: For the musicians on here!
Plastic/wood cocktail sticks would be better. Twisted wire as you frantically glide up and down the neck sounds painful against thin wire.
There must be a lot on here with a gheeetar collection (great spelling!)
We should start a gallery.
Want to hear this custom shop build ring out!
