RS Stance correct???
Greetings all
Any thoughts on the stance of my RS, is the rear wheel sitting too deep into the wheel arch or does it look appropriate?
Appreciate your valued feedback!
Regards
Nate

Re: RS Stance correct???
There's something not right.
Are those genuine 8x15 inch Fuchs?
Do you have the correct spacers on the rear wheels?
What are your tyre sizes?
Regards
Mike

Re: RS Stance correct???
They're 16in Fuchs ...
Tyres are too low-profile which leads to too much space between tyre & wheelarch

Re: RS Stance correct???
7 & 8x16s?
Really need 15s to get it more authentic, but the 16s have a touch too low profile anyway.
Look like 205 x 45 on the front.
I'm running 205x55 front and 245x45 on rear, but my rears are 9x16
Yours looks a little nose high and low on the rear to me.

Re: RS Stance correct???
Those widows are too gothic as well. A simple clean arch would have looked better.

Re: RS Stance correct???
IMHO it is the tyre profile and diameter.
I am used to 50 section on 7" x 17's for 20 years so skinny tyres look right to me. The car needs the 1 degree nose-down rake; lear the rear alone and drop the nose to achieve it. I also feel the front height is correct when the lower A arms are horizontal at rest then 1 degree rear-up from there.
My car set up exactly how I've described:

Re: RS Stance correct???
Definitely later style wheels you have on there, these are the correct 7 & 8's x 15's on my old lwt rep, tyres a lower profile than
original if I remember correctly. People used to say it had a good stance, set up was optimised for fast road handling so slightly
higher at the front and squat at the back, if you really pushed it the rears would just rub on the inside of the arch a tad.
Hope that helps.

Re: RS Stance correct???
Wow thanks for all of the great responses, very useful information indeed!
I bought the car in its current state, the wheels/tyres fitted are as follow:
Front: 8 x 16 195/50 Yokohama Advan
Rear: 9 x 16 225/50 Yokohama Advan
Of course I would love to fit the standard 15's, but my budget is already stretched on trying to get the bank squared away on the purchase. So, what is my best course of action in terms of tyre replacement and car set up for the interim period?
1 degree of nose down rake (as per 911hillclimber) and possibly more profile on the front tyres?
Thanks guys, your advice really is invaluable.
P.S - Some BEAUTIFUL looking RS's featured in your responses, almost shorted out my keyboard from the the uncontrollable drooling

Re: RS Stance correct???
Before you lay out any cash on tyres just check the rim dims as I'm pretty sure they're 7x16 and 8x16 on yours. The tyre specs you suggest would also tally with that rim size.
Size is stamped on the back of the rim/inside one of the petals.
Selling those rims would go a very long way to a set of 7&8x15s.

RS Stance correct???
I'm with Nige - if those are genuine Fuchs they look like 7" fronts. 8s and 9s look the same so the rears might be either but more likely 8s.
Do you like how it looks and drives? If not, what don't you like?

Re: RS Stance correct???
9s have a deep recess for the wheel nuts, 8s don't and they pretty much sit flush on the surface like the 7s on the front.

Re: RS Stance correct???
195's are pretty narrow for 8" wheels.. to give you an idea, heres a pic of a chav-car with 8" wide wheels and 195/45 tyres stretched to fit..

Re: RS Stance correct???
There is no recess for the lugs on the rear wheel so based on what is mentioned above I'm guessing they are 7's and 8's.
The car is set up for track use, fitted with composite bushes (which creak a lot) and the ride can be quite harsh on our dodgy South African roads. I spend 80% of my driving on the road and only 20% on the track so I'm thinking of changing the set up when the car goes for its first annual service.
Now I just need you guys to advise me on what to ask the mechanic to do. These are the factors that I would like to remedy:
1. Front wheel does not fill the wheel arch as it should (is this a set up fix or a tyre size fix?) A local restoration expert says my front tyre is too small and the correct size should be 205/55/16
2. The rear seems to be too low. When going over bumps it feels as if there is minimal travel in the rear suspension
3. Composite bushes - an overkill? I'm not exactly trying to break lap records with this car
Cheers lads
