The list is very long ........

Most of us were shocked rather than disappointed.

I have never touched a welder but I think I could have made a better job than some of the 'factory' work on that shell. Never took photos unfortunately!

Regards
Mike

Hi

Some pictures here

http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewto ... m&start=15

It was very amateurish, not what I would have expected.

Here you go

Quoting Gary from the above mentioned thread

What do you expect on your Porsche factory restoration? Decent welding?

Maybe you have to pay extra for that...

Sorry, but I understood that was genuine, original factory welding from back in the day. That's not a standard 'T' you're looking at there. Those are reinforcements likely added by the racing team prep guys. Any restoration should surely preserve such features?

Shocking is indeed the right word to describe this 'work'!!! I cannot believe Porsche even dares to bring this car to LMC.....

Just because it was bodged by a 'racing' guy does it make it more acceptable?

My welding is far from perfect, and I'm the first to critcise it, but if that was my work I'd either of cut it off and do it again or used a lot more seam sealer to cover it up ;)

The race and rally fabricators I have encountered in my time work to a standard to which I can only dream off, even on the 'bodge plates' that get added to a shell over it's development life.

Hi

If that was the work from my race prep. guys I would certainly want better in case of a crash it looks it might just pop off. If you are looking for authenticity do you put all the dents and dings in that occured during its racing life.

I'm not sure what was more shocking. The welding or the fact that Porsche put it on display looking like that.

I've seen a 901 (no.2 I think) being restored at RUF......wow - now those guys go to incredible extremes in their restoration preparations!

i've visited mercedes and bmw's factory restoration workshops, the work they do is incredible.. ..i would have expected similar things from porsche, if the pictures are anything to go by its rather disappointing
