Really cheap run about (non Porsche)

Post by early_911 »

I was looking for a really cheap run about (sub £1000) . . . . ended up buying a london taxi at the weekend. Frist trip to work this morning and I'm loving the way cabby's all wave at each other (here in Norwich).

Yes it's very slow, and the image is a bit of a strange one . . but I actually quite like driving it (i've got my motorbikes and 911 to go fast in).

I'm certain the majority of people on here won't like it, but you never know. It is a bit of an icon.

Slam it and fit some 20" rims on it with spinners.

Plus you can put the 'On Hire' sign on and pick up drunken girls outside clubs on a Saturday night.*

When they get decommissioned the lamps get disconnected. Needless to say I'm trying to get it going again  .

If not stick a cornflake box on the roof with a torch taped inside it. The key here is 'drunk' - nobody will notice the difference. :P

Doesn't that other famous Norfolk resident Stephen Fry drive one too?

Do you get paid for the advertising still?

Yes . . . Mr Fry did drive one in that series he did (albeit a later model - yes I’ve started to taxi spot). Other famous people that drove them include Stanley Kubrick and Kate Moss . . . yes I’m becoming a taxi bore.

Unfortunately I'm not paid for the advertising. It's got London's Biggest Conversation 97.3FM on the other side. I might leave them on, or might change to something else . . . suggestions welcome. I thought the see through recaro design I saw on a racing 911 was clever (can't find a picture of it now). Happy to put DDK on there if someone can produce the sticker for it. Perhaps PCGB of the other side (joking).

My uncle bought 12 decommissioned austin cab sheds for publicity purposes in the early nineties. In '94 I had a brilliant student job driving around Antwerp in a Cutty Sark Taxi.

They are a bit cramped in the front though.
