BACKDATE BONNET

Post by fcd911 »

A short SC type bonnet - modified to “long bonnet” configuration for an SC or similar IB backdate project .

Superb workmanship and a perfect fit.

This bonnet allows the retention of the full IB slam panel and catches. The most difficult part of a backdate (and completely unnecessary if just going for a retro look IMHO) is the change or conversion of the slam panel to align the bonnet catch. Pre-impact Slam Panels are available (£288 Inc VAT), but you still need a long bonnet (if you can get a nice one at the right price). Add the cost of the parts to the labour cost to change the slam panel and it becomes very costly. This bonnet requires no change of slam panel or other metal work. I have very quickly test fitted it to my RS Rec without any attention to alignment to demonstrate the superb panel alignment at the front edge, the profile follows the curve horn grills perfectly.

I purchased this bonnet some time ago with the intention of back dating a car that I subsequently sold. As testimony to the quality of the workmanship - the bonnet is off the Paul Stephens PS Autoart Prototype. Following an accident the owner of the PS911 decided due to the cost of recreating the PS look to go back to an IB spec. I think the bonnet was slightly damaged in the accident and repaired, hence the feathered edge to the paint finish.

Price £450
