Another happy Hegarty customer..

Post by Burma-Shave »

Of course I have no affiliation, but to cover me and my wife for the 911 and 356, 6k and 3k miles respectively, including breakdown cover, agreed value...a paltry 400 quid for both - less than my renewal quote for just the 911 from my previous insurer.. 8)

No queue on the phone, no confused conversations with eager foreign chaps, no 'is that diesel or petrol?' b.s., no questions about mods, points only taken into account for the past 3 years (not 5), no sales patter.

Hard to beat IMO. Only thing you might need is track cover - which I forgot to ask about, but not really a big part of what I do anyway..

This is the way to do business.

My renewal from Hagerty came through yesterday. £225 for the Beetle and the 914 plus £35 for European breakdown which I will be taking out for the 914 international.
They will be getting my renewal for sure.

It's very well being a happy customer because you didn't have to queue on the phone or you have cheap premiums, but are there any DDK'ers who are happy customers of Hagerty because a claim has been handled well, crash damage has been repaired to your satisfaction by specialists, or god forbid, a write off has been settled to your satisfaction?

I think these are the marks of a good insurance company, I personally would want to be questioned about modifications and so on, rather than it be an issue should I have to claim.
Will be looking for new insurance when my car is finished so interested in peoples experiences when making a claim

I think one of the key differences with their service is that when on the phone to them they are very aware of the cars, amazingly knowledegable and ask for all modifications.

Plus in my case then repeating their summary and description of the modifictions and checking it was accurate.

I have never spoken to an insurance firm with such knowledge of classic, modified cars.

It's backed up by their whole ethos and if anybody recently received the company magazine it's very classic Porsche centric!

As you say Mike the proof comes at an unfortunate time - e.g. when making a big claim but to date my experience of them suggests confidence.

Perhaps he forgot to ask about mods..? Gulp. I'll add them in. I guess the 356 is pretty much standard apart from the bumpers, seats, belts, electrics, intake, p's+c's and exhaust.

Bit weird brother of mine
I have literally just changed my insurance to Hagerty - which was the grand total of £85 less than my previous insurer's new quote... which was also not including my recently obtained 6 points!

Did you know that you can drive anybody's car fully comp who also has Hagerty insurance... 8) apparently...will have to check to small print though.

Very impressed with their service, knowledge and price.
Cheers,
Vicki.

just renewed with hagerty too at 55% cheaper than previous although I did have a claim with previous underwriter for 3 litre engined targa that span on wet road and was write off......9 days later cheque received so good point about claims........that is the test of any broker or more importantly underwriter........I bought new car which has spent 14 months being restored and upgraded to within an inch of its life so I will now plan to get a Peter Morgan valuation just so there is no arguments should the worst happen........should have car back in 4 weeks....I wont drive it until agreed valuation has been done though

A BIG big thankyou to Charlie @ Hagerty who just arranged a policy for a close friend of mine who has a couple of very rare & minty clean RS Fords.

I second what Mike says above. I worked for 8 yrs for the UK's 2 largest direct motor insurer - I left them about 10 yrs ago and have zip to do with them or anyone still there - in fact they have been sold on since to a large bank who we now all own!

The point is, there is no doubt a low price is attractive, but I would never go for that as first priority when insuring anything, least of all my pride and joy...

I saw literally hundreds of cases go through where the third party would be asking us to help settle their claim because their own company didn't want to know! A certain supermarket were particulary bad...

I'm not saying Hagerty would not necessarily be very good at claims handing - they have impressed a lot of people here with their expertise/ knowledge, so it's a fair bet that the same ethos of customer care runs through other departments too - not just 'sales'. I'll give them a call myself when my current policy is up!

I went with them because their policy was perfect for me as did my friend with his two classic fords.

It also happened to be better priced than the others i had been with in the past.

I agree with you that with something like a classic car that most of us are very passionate about, price alone should not be the deciding factor.

Of course, you really only ever find out the true worth of an insurance policy / provider in the event of a claim.
