safe way of payment to USA

Post by speedsterboy »

Hi - hoping someone can advise me of the safest way to pay a private individual for the purchase of a vehicle that is in the USA
I do not know the person except through e-mail but am looking to buy a car from them.I am happy to travel to USA to do the transaction but do not want to carry any kind of monies with me.

any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated.

Ps. been burned before so very very careful now.

Some useful advice here:

Haven't ever done this myself though!
I think I would opt for one of the instant or one or two working day transfers then go to the states and accompany the seller to pick up the money.
Good luck.
BTW what are you buying?

I did an international funds transfer through lloyds tsb (my bank). I cant remember what it cost but I dont think it was too damaging. kind of like doing any other transfer of money from account to account but as its international I couldnt do it online, had to speak to them on the phone. Ask your bak about doing this sort of thing.

If seen this on The Samba - haven't tried it, but it seems like a good and safe solution:
