fuch wheels

Post by moriarty »

Hi Andy
When did Fuchs go tubeless, was it when they went to 16" dia or did they make any 15" tubeless? I've heard that some people are running tube type tyres without tubes!! also not sure about et no's do they relate to offset? There seems to be various part no's ie 911-361 020 911-361-021 911-362-115. I was hoping to find some sort of info correlating all the different no's and what model of car they where fitted to etc.
Cheers Maurice

i seem to remember reading a thread about this a (long) while ago. but have done a search and can't find anything.

have a vague memory that it might have been Ian-uk who asked about tubes.

as far as i know i have never had tubes in any of the wheels on my cars :?

I have 6x15's Fuchs (Deep Sixes) with Fulda 185/70x15s on my 1970 2.2S. The date code of the wheels are contemporary with the car. These rims must have inner tubes as the design of the rim profile is not suitable to be tubeless. You wll also notice on rims for tubed tyres that the hole for the valve is different and not suitable for a tubeless valve. When I had my tyres fitted, the technician said that modern tyres not intended to have inner tubes have a rougher internal finish which can chaff the tube. However, in 7 years I have had no problems. Fuchs rims became tubeless at some point, but I am not certain what date.

Hope this is of some help.

Let me know if you want a photo of tube style rim, as I have a damaged one with no tyre on.

This brings up the age-old debate regarding deep six Fuchs & whether they require tubes or not ...

I, along with very many early 911/912 owners, (both here & in the USA) have been running (in my case a number of different cars over a 10 year period) deep six & 7R wheels with tubeless tyres without any problems whatsoever.

Regarding the original question, this link will possibly give you most of the answers you require:

Andy
Interested in this cos I would rather not run with tubes, but how do you fit a tubeless valve stem in a deep six?

Out of curiosity, can some explain what "offset" and "backsize" are measurements of? - it would be good to know

Cheers

Offset is the dimension from the middle of the wheel to it's mounting surface ("hub" on the pic). Note that this can be negative too, not on Fuchs listed on the pic though, but some other wheels.
Backside, or back spacing as often called, is the dimension from the mounting surface to inner edge of the wheel.

This illustration may help explain the terms:
