Simple affordable full flow oil system -what do you think?

click on the 'clean oil preserves your engine' text for the details.
Looks pretty trick - tempting at those dollar prices, too.
What do you think? I posted in general chat as it would apply to '12's too, I guess.

No, I think $495 is kit only. Plus taxes and ting.
Seems it can be fitted without dropping the engine, though, (you basically replace the oil pump cover with the adaptor) which suggests to me easy DIY install..hmm. 300 quid for a fitted full flow system seems like a no-brainer to me, considering the both the crapness of the bypass system and the cost of a rebuild.
I dont know what the DIY kit they mention refers to, though.

Sounds bloody expensive to me considering what little is involved .
I fully flowed my beetle engine for a lot less (about £15) although I did have to take the case apart to do so. Might have to speak to Mr Prill and see what the crack is with the DIY kit.

Just noticed they also offer this setup http://www.precisionmatters.biz/remote-oil-adapter.php Looks like it could be well worth it for the savings in $.

I might need the remote kit as I'm not sure if the plug-straight-in set up leaves room for my Bursch. I am going to check this and some other FAQ's with a post on the 356 registry forum.
However I would still prefer the non remote set up - the remote kit doesnt supply the actual filter attachment, hoses or connectors by the looks of it, and you still have to find somewhere to route the hoses and mount the filter - and if you mount the filter wrong you get oil pump noise transmitted via the mount.
I think that £250 is about right for a bespoke designed and machined piece of aluminium - and the stories of cool-running, long lasting engines with clear oil at oil change makes me think that anyone with a post-electric tach motor would be daft not to do it.
There is a small bit of grinding required, but otherwise its bolt on.
At the risk of upsetting our brothers in the trade, I'm sure we could reduce the cost even more with a small group buy from Ron at Precision Matters..
Edit - Timo you have inspired me to add my toys to my sig!

Excellent, glad to hear it.Timo you have inspired me to add my toys to my sig!
I've gotta admit heat from the exhaust with the bolt on setup did cross my mind. I had a remote kit fitted to my bug and it also acted as a cooler as it was mounted at the base of the rear wing (nice through flow of cool air) I also noticed that the filter end fittings were missing from the precision matters setup? I would probably try picking this part up from a vw shop tbh. Mine came with a nicely machined piece of ally with barbed fittings that the filter screwed straight onto and 2 or 3 holes for fitment to the car (and it was very cheap in comparison) I mounted mine to the bumper mount and never experienced any noise being transmitted. I would highly recommend this kind of system. The only benefit I can see from the non remote setup is ease of fitment and less fittings to come loose/catch on things. I guess the price reflects this.
Let me know what you decide as I would probably be up for a group buy.

CSP
I recently bought a CSP remote oil filter, and the Precision Matters take off plate from the oil pump cover might be a good way of avoiding any unpleasant case opening etc..........
What would be involved with converting the tach from mechanical to electronic? Is it a replacement tachometer and an additional wire to connect to something on the engine?? How much would that cost??
The total cost of CSP remote oil filter / Take off plate / tach conversion should still be viable if it prolongs the life of the engine and saves the cost of a rebuild, by far !
Regards Jeremy

I posted some questions here
http://356registry.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1633
and the replies include chat about the tach conversion. Its all Greek to me of course..
Looks like I will be going remote because of my Bursch auspuf being in the way. More tubes but less money.. Cant see it being more than a couple of hundred all in for the adaptor and connectors.
Not bad for what protection its giving the motor..a secondary advantage of remote filter is that I get to attach trick anodised oil fittings to my old heap!
I could be in a position to bring back some kit from the states in October - but that isnt confirmed yet. Maybe somebody else is going?

Re: CSP
We,down at Roger Brays have a few converted and its no problem getting them done,as for a wire well 'A's usually have an extra wire there already, originally +supply to the second coil on a carrera motor, they are sometimes coiled up under the voltate regulator,or on later car under the right hand rear wing, also this wire the runs up under the dash with a suppy wire that originally went to the coil kill switch,so under there will be a black wire to the engine bay and a supply wire(black/white) I use these to sort the elec' tacho!Jez 356 wrote:I recently bought a CSP remote oil filter, and the Precision Matters take off plate from the oil pump cover might be a good way of avoiding any unpleasant case opening etc..........
