My RHD 67S

Some of you may recognise photos of my car from the gallery:




So shortly after acquisition decided to deal with a few localised rust spots and paint issues to put her back into original light Ivory.

Work is now well in hand at Nick Moss early 911:

Some scuttle rust and a few other patches found under the paint, but essentially not in bad order.

The chassis number (307695S)

I am hoping that paint goes on later this month and we are on the road again in April.

Bet it will look fantastic in its original colour. There can't be that many RHD '67S 's about. Did you manage to put many miles on here before the teardown?

Ha, good question. About 100 miles, if that. Oh but what miles! It drove really well and I loved the feel through the steering wheel and conectivity with the road.
Cant wait to get her back.

Your 67S will be really nice when it is completed. I would love to see it sometime. Light Ivory is such a great colour. Are you planning to bring it to any DDK events this year?

I know of three 67S's in RHD now. Yours,PMJT's and mine. Do you or Nick Moss know of any more? The nice thing is that these three are all different colours.

I know of one more, a 67 also in light Ivory and been in the same family 30 plus years.
Its down in Sussex, and Steve and I went down to visit it in January.
Very original car.
Steve may have a photo or two.

Good move, returning it to the original colour. I applaud you. It will look lovely.
Can't have been an easy decision though, it looks (in the photos) to have been in pretty good order before the repaint.
Do you have any idea just how long ago it changed to red?

I agree it was a tough decision.
However there was paint reaction on the door tops, clearly some rust activity in a couple of spots, by the sunroof and below the rear window
and a few other localised areas.

Ultimately Nick has uncovered several other areas so its been worthwhile.
Yes she did look lovely in the photos (but then so did that RHD 66 on Ebay!) the camera flatters.

We believe that the colour change happened some time in the 80s
but may even have been more recent. Nicks bodywork man claims the filler he uncovered is more recent.

The restoration by autofarm has ,however, lasted very well indeed. Down to the quality of the original restoration that she looked so good this far down the line.

Do you know what the chassis number of the white car is and what was the original colour? Thanks for posting the pics.

Hi,

I know of 2 more RHD 67s. Mine and one more that needs a full resto. Mine is being fully (inside and out) painted the original colour Bahama yellow, which should be in the next few weeks. Motor and box are up at Mike Bainbridge's being fully rebuilt. Don't have the vins handy but can get them.

That sounds fantastic too in Bahama Yellow. That really is most of the colours covered in our RHD cars except black I think. I know you have a colour chart. Does it go back to 67? I can't think of the colours that may be missing (I have Polo Red) Maybe we could post up a little thread with all the vin numbers, engine numbers and gearbox numbers of our cars. I think it will make interesting reading and be a reference for the handful of cars that were supplied to the UK in S form in 67 model year. There can't be many left. I seem to remember that Nick Moss posted a letter from PGB which listed the total S cars imported for the whole model year..35 I think....wonder how many are left.

I know it was always white. We dont have the chassis number though.

So with Alans 2 we are up to 6.
There are other examples in Australia according to early 911S, but worldwide we have to figure on probably less than 10 known cars.

Doubtless one or two more will creep out of the woodwork over time.

Thats interesting Marcus.

The other car can't be original white as that was not a Porsche colour in 67.

Well must have been light Ivory then.
The owner said that the paint now on it was matched to the original. Its possible that paint and memories both fade over time.

Bob the owner was adament that the car was always that colour.
We went to see it because I was looking for an Ivory White example to compare when I was making the decision between red or back to original Light Ivory.But this car isnt Light Ivory.

The car is in Hailsham.
I will try to get the chassis number if I am ever over that way again.
We did promise to revisit when my car was repainted.

BTW If you ever come across them I am looking for the Chrome embelishers that go on the end of the arm rest on the doors. I know you hunted high and low for these for some time.

It must be a trick of the light in those photos.....it does look white but as you say must be light ivory.


I eventually found a lovely set of chrome button surrounds for the armrests from the US. They were over £300 but they are rarely available. I will keep my eyes open for you but anyone who knows what they are will charge top dollar.

I am still on the hunt for rocker(sill) trims. Hang onto yours through your repaint as they are nearly impossible to find and mega expensive when they come up.
