Gears for A Sauter
Nice to see the Single Seater Sauter again - it used to be in Switzerland and somwhere I have some photos of, which I will happily pass on
We also used to own a Sauter / Porsche with 1500 4-Cam in it - great fun but needed work to make it competative
I also spent some time with Mr Sauter so have a little knowledge of what he got up to - again happy to pass it on
It seems to me that the easy way out of your friends problem is to fit a Porsche Gearbox - this opens you up to a whole range of ratios
We do have a Computerised Gear Calculation Chart - feed in any Tyre Size - any Final Ratio - Any Gear plus the revs and it will draw the graph for you
We currently have 17 Gearboxes in stock plus a selection of some obsure gears - so we may be able to help you out in this direction also
Ring me if you think we can help 07718 660 499

hello Mike cheers for your reply
the car that needs the ratio's changing is a 60 essenkay with a skoda engine and a split case early beetle box and dont think it can be changed as it race's in formula junior and needs to be OG, i think this means the box to,
this Sauter runs a DDK 2 stroke as the rRSK was bought for the engine for a formula 1 car and the rest of the bits went to building this car,
you would'nt belive the sound of it on the dyno yesterday
anyways cheers for you help and will pass you number on to Tim the guy with the cars

I am not familiar with the 60 Essenkay so really cannot say a lot
Assuming it is possible and allowable to change to a 356 Box - the following gears are available for Type 741 Boxes
If it is not allowable then it may be possible with some good engineering to squeese in a Pair of Porsche Shafts and Gears
The only other option is to see what VW Gears are availalble (not many from what I remember) and then fill any holes in the acceleration graph by having what is needed manufactured - anything is possible - its only money
The first thing is to decide what the car is needed for
Does 1st gear suit what is required
How fast do you need to go in 4th (or 5th)
and then fill in the middle with decreasing RPM drops and still keeping the drops within the power curve
Maybe also you can juggle with Final Drive ratios and also Wheel / Tyre Sizes
