How do you set the timing advance for an 050 distributor?

Post by sdimbylow »

I know this topic has been covered a few times but after reading through the posts, I can't fathom the exact set up required for my car.
I have a 1967 912 engine with Solex carbs and an 050 brazilian distributor. In my workshop manual it suggests marking the crankshaft pulley 3.8mm to the right of OT for a 66/67 car and 3.6mm to the left of OT for a 68/69 car running at 900rpm. I have mechanical advance and this seems to work fine when I dial the timing light to 30 and run the engine at 3000rpm.
What are the correct settings?
I am trying to sort out an annoying flat spot through the lower rev range. Under hard acceleration after an initial miss, the engine runs very well.
Hope someone can help out?
