Where is the brake light switch on a 356?

Post by Burma-Shave »

Hello folks.

I'm afraid I have to come clean - no I didn't drive the Dukes pass in the rain (on the highland tour) without using the brakes once - its just that me brake lights don't work..

Turn signals work fine (same bulb), so I guess its the switch, but its not under the pedal where I thought it would be. Can someone save me a bit of poking about with a torch?

Fankoo, fankoo..

So its true what they say about you lot

Have you taken the wires off the existing brake light switch and joined them together - it may not be the switch - might be able to save yourself £3!

(Could be another wiring / earthing type fault)

Aye, mini a mookle maks a murkle, as they say up here, (with a mouth full of deep fried snickers)

Yes, the lights come on when I jumper the switch. I could just try the veedub part, but thats 3 quid before Vat and postage, you know. Buggered if I'm going to spend two pints' worth unecessarily. (I could ebay it I suppose.. )

Al Zim on 356 registry reckons the VW part is the same, although not correct for concourse  . So, thanks again lads. I'm off to telephone my bank to warn them I will be shortly withdrawing £5..then down an alley for a pint of drain cleaner.

OK just to follow up on this, the VW part definitley fits and works.
Got it for £2.99 from Volkspares :)

..although Volkspares are a bit of a shower otherwise, it seems.
B-S -'I'd like to order a brake light switch'
VS - 'What model is it from'
B-S - 'Oh, its actually for a 356 Porsche'
VS -'A what? 256 Porsche?? We don't sell parts for Porsches, Sir..'

Cue head banging gently off wall by the phone. I was tempted to say - 'Let me take you back to Pre-war Germany, and a man called Ferdinand..' Sigh.

Then they charge me six quid postage for that and a couple of other piddling things, that came in a jiffy bag posted Royal Mail for £1.38 postage on it.

Its not a big deal, but I'll not bother with 'em again.
