Can anyone recommend any one for re-chroming. I've got some pitted bits of chrome on my car, they're solid enough and replacements aren't that cheap. Or is it better to bite the bullet and buy new bits?

A northern location would be helpful.

I have used London and Brighton Plating http://www.lbplating.com/ not near you but very good.

Remember the results are dependant on the polishing, and as with any polishing it's knowing when to stop so you retain any edges etc. Also a few parts like Horn Grilles are made of alloy called mayzac (sp) which is very difficult to get plated. Another thing to consider is how shiny your new stuff is going to look next to the old, so if you are getting things that are 'paired' then I would get them both done.

there is a really good place near Barnsley .... I think its called prestige plating. Well recommended

Whatever chrome you get done make sure you get the triple process.

Office chairs, pram handles and the like are (I believe) straight chrome-on-steel. This is fine until it gets damp, and then it starts to rust.

The triple process is a coating of copper, then nickel, and finally chrome. This is why when you polish through good chrome it looks 'copper'ery' underneath.

Certainly the West Hyth crowd triple chrome, not cheap though:the TR rear bumper blade, four overriders and two tiny number plate lights were around £350 -£400 . Good job the front bumper blade was O.K.

Yep - can vouch for Brian @ Prestige Plating, a Jaguar fan through and through - know them well (family run setup - very friendly)
have had all mine done there to date and no real problems
They also do a fine job on polishing alloys !!! Did my deep 6s, very reasonably priced

Cost about £500 but had a few bits off the 911 done at the same time, did a good job, but the process is totally dependent upon the quality of the metal once they've stripped off the old stuff.

Also used a company called Midas Touch in Castleford (01977 604040) who does gold plating, chroming, nickel, zinc, alloy polishing, powder coating sand and vapour blasting - only used him for shot blasting and powder coating so far but really good quality and cheap as chips...! (perfect for us northerners )

Various SWB and LWB parts, some of which are just polished, such as 2 sets of sunroof parts, dash trim and LWB door top and rear side window trim. This which will be anodised as per original.

looks nice stuff Alan.. I am about to use Rainbow polishing for my 356 stuff just boxing it all up now, as he can get all sorts of stuff done. Very reasonable prices esp on polishing wheels.
