It was

Post by Andy »

Yep

your all right it was manipou and a very nice guy to deal with he was. Car is a Californian import, 1969 T with a 2litre engine. Loads of history and original documentation. It has had some steel arches put on some time ago and Mani had it painted and added a few RS bits, before he sold it. For a 37 year old car its remarkable.

I have now stripped out the interior and there is only minor rust mostly by the pedal box which is going to have to be replaced in any case. I have invested in some new front and rear bumpers with a chin spoiler

I have bought a 3.6 twin spark engine with about 64k on the clock and plan to get it up to circa 275/300 BHP.

Searching for a G50 short box and a few other goodies to bring it up to a fast track/road car kind of based on a 73 RS but not a clone, more of a personal statement.

Any of you have suggestions or comments on lessons learnt, bring it on please

Sounds though it will be fun when you've put that engine in it!

Have you found a supplier of a suitable clutch and flywheel package for the 3.6 with a short G50? Patrick motorsport do them for the turbos and 3.0's etc using a turbo clutch and flywheel combo howver this wont work on the 3.2's and 3.6's because of the Bumps on the outer part of the flywheel for the speed reference sensors also the 3.6 has a different bolt patter I belive. He did try to make one for the 3.2 but someone who tried this on pelican had a load running issues due to interfearence caused by the modified flywheel and the sensors. In the end that guy gave up and swapped for a turbo engine.

I was faced with the same problems when looking at doing my G50 conversion in the end I went with changing out the torsion bar tube for the later 87 - 89 type.

Another issue you will have is that even with a short G50 you still need to move the engine back 3/4". The 3.6's already sit further back in the engine bay than other engines so even with a STD tranny you need to modify the crossmember by bending it 15mm (iirc) forward. This added to the movement to get the tranny to fit may cause you big clearence issues with the back panel.

Edit

If you get a 993 engine as opposed to a 964 you can swap to a single rear pully setup then the above wont be a problem.

Guys,
Heres how I see it..................its all going over my head but am trying to learn and am envious of you guys who have the knowledge to talk about engine swaps etc, there may be some info for you on the "9meister" site, company in Warrington that appear to be pretty good at increasing engine size etc but you may have allready seen their site.
