A sad day indeed but it looks like the Targa may need to be sold. The car was jointly owned with my dad (as he's got the garage) but unfortunately due to his health means he isn't able to use it as much as we hoped.
The timings of this news sucks as I can't buy him out right now and would also need to find a garage for storage in London.
All of which means it looks like it needs to be sold. The problem with this was the car was never intended to be sold, as least not for several years and is currently quite an expensive work in progress where money and return on investment wasn't the motive, if you know what I mean. However, if it is to be sold now before having enjoyed it as much as I'd hoped, it would be good to try an re-coupe as much of the money as possible without be greedy - possibly going towards another 911, not a targa, which could live more easily in London. I might even sell the beetle to consolidate.
So far the spend is approximately £18K including buying the car in the first place. The work includes:
- complete new floor plan welded in by Alex at Retro
- engine and gearbox rebuilt by JZ - pretty much all new save for the case and carbs, i.e. new pistons & barrels, stainless steel exhaust, new upgraded oil pump
There are a few other bits and pieces including a Carrera 3.2 front end but essentially it is brilliant solid underneath and an excellent drive.
This is where the problem comes in, it is in need of a new paint job, new carpets and new dashboard (plus new tach) - all of which are quite cosmetic but will bring the price down for some people.
I was hoping for advice on: a) a realistic selling price, and b) do I need to consider a house doctor solution, i.e. get the paint work down in order to increase the value?
The car is a 1969 911 T Targa, LHD import. There are photo's already in the members section but I'll list them again.
I'd really appreciate your help on this one to see if I can make this as painless as possible.
