Jo thinks I am odd...seams my US mates like the idea too and you may well end up with more orders. But I would have to have them for May the 5th to take them out..

What about doing one that would fit a G50 shifter. Suppose with some modifcations and resin a suitable stud/bolt could be inserted up the knob's hole

I am guessing that would be ok but a pain to line up 100% in the machining.

I would say machine the whole out bigger then make a nylon insert that is threaded and glue that in..bit of work up but seams the best all round..

Sladey - I shot a sneak preview on that car back in early December and noticed that gear knob. Looks like a Carrera GT shifter! Unfortunately it's a six-speed or the shift pattern is wrong or something; I remember thinking it wouldn't work.

I quite like the look of it ( the lotus one) but really as it's an 'omage it's either got to be just like the 917 or nothing - otherwise it's just like sticking a go-faster one on really.

Just thought it was interesting that Lotus chose to go with that design.

With regard to the G50 stick - the original knob fixes on by means of a threaded hole down the shaft (missus!) - an allen bolt holds it on and the gear pattern indicator is a piece of plastic that just pops in. You couldn't easily re-create this in wood. What you could do though is use a tap and die set to thread the outside of the gear stick, then cut the hole to be only just wide than the stick. Finally glue some rubber to the inside of the hole. You can then wind it on down the thread in the outside of the stick. This would mean you could unscrew it if you wanted to, and could also return it to stock if you wanted to later. Just a thought.

Sorry for the delay guys. I don't make them - a friend of mine does. He wants to do some things to increase his hit-rate; at the moment, only 1 in 3 knobs made it past QC. He promises will be done in the next three months. I have his address, so if he doesn't deliver on this promise, you can form a crowd outside his house and bash him in with your shifter sticks.
