My god, that is absolutely lovely!

Or a 964RS @ £32,995?
Maybe a 356 Speedster rep @ £19,995?

Call in at my place (not far off your route) if you want to see the 912 and the Apal......

Darn didn't see this message untill i got back home else we would have called in.
Gmund have just got a sweet 356 (UK RHD) ivory with red leather. we were tempted but decided it was just a bit too like the one we are restoring.

I thought I had to write this, after yesterday going to see Mick's 912.

I sold my 2.2 911 Sporto last week, as I had arranged a deal for a Ginetta G4 which I have coveted for a long time, and I had no plans to view anything else.
When I saw Mick's 912 advertised last week, it hit all the right notes from a point of view of year, colour, it's rally heritage, everything about it said I had to have a look. However, I had never driven a left hand drive car , nor a 912 before.
I arranged to view it yesterday, and in truth, on the way there, I felt as if
I would be disappointed. I have always had very quick cars and felt that it wouldn't satify my "need for speed", (which should be waning as I am the wrong side of 50....)
Mick is a man after my own heart, with a similar amateur motorsport background over a similar period, and we obviously have a taste for a particular period of cars.
All I can say is that I was very impressed . The car has one of the best panel fits, and one of the nicest paint jobs I've seen. Sure it isn't concours everywhere, but that isn't what I wanted.
It has a sweet engine, a wonderful 901 dog-leg box that is THE BEST one I've ever tried, and some nice touches if you're into rally bits like I am.
The seats aren't period, but they're tremendously comfortable, and do the job.
I was amazed that I got on ok with LHD, and I'm sure that it won't now put me off in the future. A nice 912 isn't really fast, but it can be entertaining, and I was delighted that it handled and stopped better than my 911, as it is much lighter.

To cut a long story short, I came away from Micks house with a real dilemma. The 912 had been a revelation, and I have as high standards as they come. Here is a 41 year old car that is very, very good.
I have spent every waking hour since, trying to decide what to do.
Until a couple of hours ago I had decided to buy both the 912 and the Ginetta, to give me time to decide properly, but that would have meant leaving the Porsche outside, and I wouldn't want that.
So it's with great regret that I have decided not to buy the Porsche, but was also so impressed with it that I had to do Mick and the car justice, and write these notes.
