what finish is on the petal and rim, are they polished and then laquered?

Nope - they're anodised as per original.

Jamie, Does the paint adhere to the anodising or did you use some etch primer?
BTW who did the anodising?

OK - I may have got that wrong... the wheels are original factory finish, which I believe is anodised. They were a bit scabby, so I used some Turtle Wax wheel polish (aka Brasso) to clean them up, then wiped them down with pure alcohol.

There was original paint on the wheels already. I used three coats of acid etch primer, then three coats of satin black, with the remainder of the can for touching-up thin spots. The paint dries very quickly (I now have a flat full of VOCs and a woke-up this morning with a massive headache), so it doesn't take long.

I made dinner (cous cous and chicken tagine) between the primer coat and black, and it tasted of solvent.

Just had the tyres fitted and the guy in the shop was like "f'in hell. Nice"

Nice job, and after my weekend of Satin Black painting (see my refurb thread) I can appreciate the solvent issues

What did you use to mask the wheels, as I have seen a lot of pictures with blue masking ?
