Latest pics of car before roll cage (Big pics!!)

The cars going in for the roll cage install this Wednesday so I thought I'd take some before pics for the usual before-after shots. So here's what it looks like now:

The guy's putting in the cage, seat mounts, harness mounts, skid-plates (made to my tempates, so if anyone wants to borrow the templates let me know) and replacing the front left wing. Once that's done (the following Wednesday) it's off for some spraying. Then it's off to get some new 'rally' spec tyres. Then it's off to Mike Caravasili (spl?) to get a 4 wheel alignment. Then it's the next rally 1st weekend in Nov!!

and somewhere in there I've gotta find some rear adjustable Koni's ASAP (hopefully height adjustable too) before I take it to Mike's... hi ho it's off to e-bay I go

Will take a few pics of the cage on Wednseday before it gets welded.

Cool! Where did you get your "GT" bonnet retaining plates? Did you make them yourself?

Made em myself out of ally... easy enough... cut the lines straight, file em off to round the edges, polish the top surface bobs yer uncle. Done in about 2hours from start to finish.

Where are your pins from? I got my last ones off ebay but the quality wasn't all that, plus they didn't have the nice little retaining wires.

from 'Demon Twats' they're stainless steel OMP ones (on page 393 of the 2006 motorsport catalogue). Part no-EB489 £8.49 a pair. Great quality, especially compared to those shite ally ones that are around.

No... the 1.7 badge is a bit of a mystery. Porsche show the car as coming out of the factory as a 1.8litre (which is what is presently in it) however it has a 1.7 badge... odd

A guy called Shaun O'Gorman 07710 961627 or 01686 411096, he does bodyshell prep and fabrication for many rally teams. Rollcages are his speciality e.g. he did a superb custom cage for my roof chopped bug. The cage he's put in the 914 is Historic Spec, ready for me to go rallyin' next yr in the Historic Rally Championship. His work is second to none... I can't recommend him enough and his prices are VERY reasonable... probably something to do with the slave labour wages over here in mid-wales. The cage itself fits about as snug as you can possibly get to the body and with the roof fitted it's hardly noticeable from the outside that it's caged.

Here's some pics I just took, excuse the mess in there but I'm just fabbing an ally dash and re-doing the door panels.

You can see in the pic above the bolt on gusset on the windscreen pillar, this is because if I race in europe I have to take these bolts out to conform to FIA historic spec rules.

Here again you can just make out the rear bolt-in gusset that attaches to where the top seatbelt mount used to be.

He did a very trick thing above with the harness bar. He concluded that to mount the cage to the panel behind the seats is not a good idea for many reasons (including the fact that it's just so thin and flimsy) so he cut a section out so that the bar could go all the way across as it should do, then welded the section back in. A real neat and strong solution.

Thats looks pretty sturdy and I like the back-pad solution (will this prevent you putting a six in it later?)

I'm pretty sure koni don't make height adjustable rear shocks (unless you go with a coil-over kit that fits over the std shock) Bilstein make an height adjustable shock though.

I fitted Bilsteins which have adjustable height on the back but they still don't take it up high enough. Personally I don't think they've even taken it back up to stock height, eve, on their highest setting (contrary to what the Pelican parts guy told me

). It seems that I'm trying to go against the flow as everyone wants to lower a 914, not raise it. I've got my eye on some 'over thread' which will solve it though.

I've no plans to ever put a 6 in. I know the 4's inside out and have plans to get about 200bhp out of a 2litre. Unfortunately I can't increase the capacity

otherwise I'd be aiming at 300

. But 200 should be enough and will be quite a bit lighter than if I used a 6 to get to that figure.

Just finished the dash, complete with push button start, windscreen wash button, spots switch and Elec cutoff and fire extinguisher pull cables.
