914-6 GT wheel options please

Post by Gunscrossed »

My car is currently fitted with 8”x 15” front and 9” x 15” rear Minilite wheels.
I’m thinking of getting some Fuchs, am I correct in saying that 7” front and 8” rear would work?
Any other suggestions welcome, preferably with pictures if possible 🙏

Sounds like you've bought the DSD-built orange car - nice buy if you have !

Regarding your question - yes, 7 & 8 x15in Fuchs do fit. I bought an ex-race 914/6 GT style car many years ago (for its freshly-built 2.5 litre twin-plug engine) which had Fuchs in those sized fitted.

In case you haven't seen them, here are some photos of an early Factory 914/6 GT that Export 56 had for sale:

As Andy says. 7s and 8s will work.

Not sure how wide the arches are on your Jäger car: possibly fitted a little wider to allow for 9s on the back.

Either way you may need / want spacers so that the wheels fill the arches in a pleasing way.
I had 7x15 Fuchs on the front of my GT rep and added 23mm spacers.
Just check for fouling on inner arches when steering is at max.

You also need to take into account the make & size of tyres you fit as there can be quite a variance between different brands ...

The front tyres are currently https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/18-60 ... V-atnhATBJ

And the rears are, https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/18-60 ... V-atnhATBJ

They look pretty cool but are 10 years old so ideally I think they need replacing, if I go down that route Longstone list the Pirelli P7 as an alternative.

Careful - Dougal will tell you that 914s came with 165x15s and anything wider will spoil the handling...
