The title of this thread references a Lizzo song. In some of the interior pics you can see that my Blaupunkt is pumping out some Marina, or Dua Lipa, or Charli XCX. And while I might well be a 25 year old lesbian trapped in the body of a much older man (Hey! Marvel reference!), that doesn't mean I don't know my history as well.

Yesterday I sat down and re-read the section in the 964 Bentley manual about valve adjustment. It gave me conflicting information - to either check the valves every 12,500 miles, or only when you can hear ticking from the cam covers and if you feel there's a drop off in performance. I have neither. I was all set to just check a valve or two and prepared to wheech the lower left cam cover off, when I looked a bit closelier at it.

Dissimilar metal corrosion sucks. Right now I know it's sealing well enough. I don't know how much (or even if) it's going to crumble if I take it off. Time for a tactical retreat. I boxed everything back up with my fancy new carbon fibre tinware, which was a proper sod to fit. The rear (or front?) pieces will have to wait until an engine drop.

This was well deserved.

Back together it went just as well as it's always done. The joint at the cat sealed fine, thankfully. So what now? The knowledge that ignorance is bliss. Also the knowledge that every time it fights me, it ends up better than it was previously. The knowledge that it's such a well-engineered thing that it can handle the neglect it's had in the past.

The lower valve cover isn't as expensive as I was expecting:

So that'll be getting bought. And left on a shelf somewhere. I don't want to miss the summer in this thing, so I'm not going to. Engine drop in the winter? Probably. Possibly.

That was my thinking as well, but I'm actually surprised it's not more common. The RHS tin is six years old, has maybe seen rain twice, and already it's looking shitty. Rubbing up against that is going to dissolve aluminium (or magnesium) in no time at all.
