Has anyone done this on cdi system is it reliable is there a advantage?

I'm on CDI on both of my cars. You don't say what car you have? CDI can still mean having points but the voltage going through the points is much less. Therefore they wear less. You can also replace the points, with or without, upgrading to CDI with a electrical / magnetic switch or completely change the distributor to a 123 unit.

Upgrade to CDI = bigger spark (maybe a double spark with some units)

Upgrade to magnetic points= no messing around with points gaps

Upgrade to 123 dizzy= better advance curve and no messing around with points gaps

You can also upgrade to a crank sensor and let the cdi manage the advance curve but this is bigger job

In my 914 I had magnetic points and a CDI. I installed the CDI in 1/2 day myself. Most of that time was making a bracket for the CDI unit

I have a 3 pin cdi box engine is 3.2 with a points distributor i was thinking off installing the electronic unit aftermarket type into existing distributor which hsd a rs curve done to it
